Haha it was super simple stuff like “if a fullback in the game, power to the right, if not, stretch to the left” every first and second down. It was incredible. I used to mock the Jags for having a predictable game plan but the Browns took care of that.

I’m just eating popcorn enjoying this discussion haha

I’ll have a real answer once I’ve studied teams’ performance in the offseason

Tbh I still don't really have a real answer, so many things that I just don't know about a coach's day to day

I definitely hear you on LaFleur and I was a bit skeptical including him. It's pretty impressive to go 13-3 in three straight seasons, which, admittedly, is largely due to Rodgers. With that said, from what I've read and understand, he's done a better job of scheming an offense than McCarthy did (which I know isn't difficult). I think working with Rodgers must be difficult to handle as well so I commend him for his leadership in that department at least and being able navigate that drama. Like you said though, he's firmly on my watch list because he could quickly be removed from this list.

As for Stefanski, I like offense that he runs and I mostly like his in-game decision making. I'd really like to see what his offense could do without Baker. I know the Browns as a whole had a down year, but I still have faith in Stefanski as an offensive mind. He was another name on here I went back and forth on, but felt inclined to include. He kind of reminds me of Frank Reich in some respects, though Reich has been a head coach for longer.

Yeah I just wanna subjectively make that judgment call based on how versatile & situationally intelligent their play calling and game awareness was, and how much I like the way they used their talent

I mean, there's obviously so much we'll never know and so we're largely subjected to game days, press conferences, and reports on these coaches so I think all these lists should be taken with a grain of salt, but they're still fun to put together

How did people in here feel about Arians prior to Brady?

He was actually one of the names I almost didn't include. I don't think Arians runs a creative offense or calls great plays. He definitely can get too run-heavy at times and is not afraid to kick field goals in enemy territory on fourth and short, but he has some solid Cardinals offenses when Palmer was healthy. Although, like LaFleur, Brady certainly helps cover up some blemishes

I didn’t have an opinion on him much beforehand so that’s why I’m a little hesitant to include him as a lock for good now that 99% of awareness of him is with Brady

I've also soured on his leadership skills a bit since he caved in when it comes to Antonio Brown and showed little to no accountability for bringing him in when shit predictably went south

These days I kinda go back and forth on him but I don't think that makes him not good, I think I just like him less and want to root for him less haha

I reserve the right to immediately dump DQ into the bad category when he gets hired lol

Arians is a really good coach. I’m pretty sure he presided over some of Ben Roethlisberger and Andrew Luck’s best statistical seasons

This conversation is limited to Head Coaching though. Because most bad head coaches are elite coordinators and should have just stayed there lol.

Like DQ is an elite defensive coordinator and I would never take that away from him, but I wouldn’t touch him with a 25 foot pole if I needed a HC lol

    Agree

I think Eberflus is closer than Quinn is
