I love how transpararent(ish) Ballard is with these interviews. I don’t know of many other GMs who dish in the same way, which is fun as a fan

 

Nice to see him hold himself accountable and defend Reich considering it was ultimately Ballard’s decision to trade for Wentz

 

Shocking to see a GM admit this

Obviously, as a Jags fan, you don’t want to hear that, but I have a soft spot for the Colts because I’m a big fan of Reich. I’m glad it doesn’t seem like he’s going to become a scapegoat eventually for a decision that, while he played a part in, he wasn’t ultimately responsible for

Yeah he played like 2-3 games before getting hurt

 

Yes because Goff is still pretty decent

 

I mean, no hahaha

but I do think people are harder on Goff unfairly without considering he’s not the REASON the lions went 3-13-1 and without considering Wentz’s play was really elevated by opponents focusing on stopping JT

 

Wentz’s play was also elevated by drawing DPI penalties and defenders missing easy turnovers

 

We have seen people be hyperbolic against Goff and Wentz cause they’ve both been fairly disappointing after they both went the fuck OFF in years 2-3… the actual truth is probably that they’re both average / middle of the pack QBs

 

They are average at best and are trending towards being bad starters at this point in their careers

 

I’d put Wentz with Cousins tbh. Great numbers usually, capable of being great when he’s “on”, but the eye test / situational intelligence / ability to be clutch doesnt live up to the stats

 

meh. We might have different metrics for “bad starter” hahaha

my idea of a bad starter is Blake Bortles’ Jags tenure, so keep in mind I have that Jags handicap on this topic lmfaooo

Wentz and Goff aren’t gonna elevate a team but they play pretty solid when they they have quality support and coaching

 

Haha my standard for a bad starter is "his talent makes us gameplan specifically to avoid using him."

 

There are probably 20 QBs I would take over Wentz and Goff at this point. I think there’s better QB play in the league than there was during the starting days of Bortles and so I think our expectations should change too, especially when considering how much money some QBs are making relative to their level of play
