Kidding aside the point about kids being raised in sports debate and first take is interesting. When I was a young kid I was sometimes in awe of the star players who were in high school. I couldn’t imagine talking to a pro like that, let alone one with the career Cam has had.

I hate any argument that includes “this generation” or “these days” in it.

 

I looked closer and I don’t quite see it for the Wentz trade. In terms of AV (which isn’t a perfect stat by any means), Wentz’ middle case is like 1-2 AV/year higher than Brissett. The picks they gave up are probably worth an average of 5 AV/year total (with high variability). They’re basically betting hard on Wentz reaching his MVP-lite peak, which doesn’t feel likely

 

I'd say that AND playing against the feeling that they have to reach for QB elsewhere. Like what's the AV of passing on a good player and reaching on Mac Jones or something?

Probably a really strong argument for them to have just trusted a Fitzpatrick for this season and hoping a QB they like falls to them in round 2 or 3; but, if you're staring down the likelihood of not getting a top guy this year and a soft class next year, you end up looking at a likely trade. Im a little curious if they pushed for a Carr or Cousins or similar player instead; definitely rather have one of those guys at a similar price

 

I’ve just always taken issue with athletes getting heckled constantly and just being expected to take it. They are people too. If you talk shit to them you shouldn’t act surprised if they say something back.There’s obviously lines that can be crossed but we didn’t see anything like that here.

Cam put together a football camp for a bunch of kids and one of them wanted to talk shit so Cam said something back to him. That doesn’t make Cam the bad guy. I think it’s silly we just expect them to “just ignore it” every time.

 

It’s imperfect, but my rough calculations would have given:

Mac Jones - him plus the $10M you save need to combine to combine to roughly 15AV - assuming you don’t trade up (which basically means Jones needs to play at a level of a below-average QB and your FA signing needs to play at a league average starter at a different position)

Carr/Cousins/similar player: I’m assuming it’s like Stafford and the price would have been 2 firsts plus. Just with the two firsts, that guy needs to play at an MVP level to justify that price. Two firsts plus a third (plus no rookie contract) probably guarantees you “lose” the trade regardless of performance.

 

Completely agree, and certainly don’t get how it makes Cam a “phony” haha

Im also assuming this kid is in high school (cant imagine Cam running camps for middle school kids), so, while obviously Cam wont do it, thats in "talk shit and get knocked out" range. Especially telling a dude who's made $125mil just in salary that he's gonna be broke.

I suspect the cost is lower; I'm actually thinking its a reverse of Wentz's trade. A 2021 1st, and like, 2022 2nd. I really think the second 1st for Goff was taking on his contract.

What Cam did was funny. I mean, an adult is never going to win an argument with a teen. You just won’t. But when a kid says “you’re about to be poor”, his responding with “I’m rich” is just a factual rebuttal. And if you’re going to heckle someone, be prepared for them to give it back. Which the kid did, his “you’re a free agent” refrain was his plan of attack and he stuck to it. The kid is being shitty and if you’re in Cam’s situation you can either ignore it or give it back as best you can, but you do have to recognize you aren’t going to “win”. So whatever you do, however you respond, do it with that in mind.

It’s like that episode of Community where Jeff and Britta get into it with the visiting high schoolers.
