Imagining babysitting my friends son and him saying “I hate this song turn it off” because he’s very opinionated... and instead of just shrugging it off, me getting defensive and saying “yeah well I hate your music so deal with it you little punk.”

 

Well the same because I don’t have success like Newton or any pro QB.

Exactly ! My step son is 10 and I just brush it off and laugh when he mouths off, because in reality I think most of us here was like that as a kid. I know I was.

 

I dunno - isn’t that what being an adult is? You just submit to every want of a child? That’s how kids get spoiled lol

They only do what they see other people do. If you teach them to be combative they will develop that habit. If you teach them to compromise and be respecting of all opinions they’ll develop that habit.

reacting and getting defensive is the worst thing you can do because it shows kids they will get the reaction they want out of you whenever they troll you. It encourages them to push your buttons more. If you stay calm and are tactful about turning contentious discussions into rational explanations that teaches kids respect. A kid doesn’t learn respect from hostility, they just learn “oh okay so whenever someone makes me mad I should get hostile too”

but also every human has a weak moment and I am sure Cam has heard every insult and critique over the past year - probably just was sick of it regardless of where it came from - it’d obviously be different and bad if he like beat the kid up

 

I agree with that - I think being defensive isn’t a good trait - I think reached with sarcasm is a good way tho which is how I read your example haha

 

Like my step son said mother fucker while playing PS4 and his mother was ready to freak. I told her just to relax and warn him because I'm pretty sure I cursed at that age and I said if you don't think he curses when he's with his friends he's got you fooled lol.

 

I don’t know how I’m gonna handle cursing and kids lol. I curse like a motherfucker. I’ve definitely let a few slip around my friend’s son but it’s okay cause I’ve seen her just curse directly in front of him lol

 

Well I think that situation versus the cam situation is apples to oranges - I agree with you about swearing - it doesn’t bother me and my wife and I aren’t gonna care about it unless our kid says it in a classroom or something haha

 

My friend’s 11 year old and I were playing Mario kart yesterday and I let out a “motherfucker” it was awesome

 

My son has said shit and damn before. He's not three yet. Damn isn't a swear word in my opinion. Shit won't be either eventually.

 

On the history of swear words on netflix they said it's all about context and they're right. Fuck isn't a swear word in certain contexts.

 

Mostly mine come from road rage cause I usually do some driving when I babysit that kid haha. His mom thinks it’s hilarious how much my demeanor changes when I drive lol. But yeah I’ve had to tell myself “you’re supposed to be setting an example and showing this kid how to be patient” so the last few times I was much more chill

 

Swear words are just emphatic words, gate keeping them is the whole reason they have any power

much like the war on drugs, making it a crime to begin with is what created the majority of the problem
