D'Wayne Eskridge averaged 14.4 YAC per reception. That's fucking absurd lol. Even taking level of competition into account, half that would be considered above average.

It's not really habitual. A lot of that stuff is designed and he's making the right reads.

The UTSA game is a good one to watch because he just wrecks them in all kinds of different ways. There's a climb route that he hits near the beginning of the game that's just beautiful. One of the nicest throws of the season by any QB.

If you can throw Mitt Romney's nephew open for two seasons, you're good at quarterback.

Straight up, Howard should be suing PFT for defamation. That's a reckless headline/social media post.

Florio was a lawyer, he should know better than that shit...

If you liked Baker Mayfield you have no reason not to like Zach Wilson.

His name does appear in the incident report though so it technically can’t be defamation. Just good old fashioned unethical clickbait reporting!

I don't think its that the "price has come down", if hes moved its between NYJ and Miami

The Denver and Carolina stuff seems like headline fodder for those fanbases

  10. I don’t think it’s fodder because I think we are very serious about acquiring him. But I will admit, it’s obvious Miami or NYJ have the upper hand. I think my hope is that Miami decides the price is too high and then Watson says no to Jets. I don’t think that’s an unrealistic scenario and it’s basically our only hope.

I mean news fodder in terms of highly unlikely and probably not even worth thinking too much about

It could be career suicide for Caserio if he doesnt come out with a clear solution at QB if Deshaun is moved

    I think there's three possible scenarios -

    1. Deshaun stays
    2. Trade to NYJ for #2 (Zach Wilson) + sign a vet QB (RGIII?)
    3. Trade to MIA and Tua is viewed as the franchise guy

I could be off base but I just don't put much of any stock in Carolina/Denver/etc for Deshaun

The smart thing to do would be realize your franchise is bottom three (at best) and hit restart completely. Getting a QB doesn't help anything really

Houston needs WAY more than a QB. I wouldn't be trying to address the QB position this year at all. Not unless you seriously think you have your HC, which I don't think they do.

  15. Teddy is a fine stopgap QB for a rebuilding team. If they can’t workout a deal with Jets or Dolphins then I don’t think it’s a bad move to take a haul of picks plus Teddy. You have a steady QB to prevent you from being absolute dogshit which helps with developing younger players. Carolina had a bad record with Teddy but we were definitely competitive and that allowed us to see what we had everywhere else.

So yeah, getting Tua or Wilson is preferred but plan C isn’t bad at all either (considering Watson leaving is inevitable).

If you get a high pick I think you have to use it on a qb or if you can trade for young QB that was just a high pick that makes sense too. You never know where you’re going to draft and you want as many shots at a franchise qb as possible while you’re rebuilding.
Of course the better idea is to not piss off the one you have but hey.

Yeah. You don’t pass on a franchise QB if he’s your guy.

but it’s also true Houston isn’t a QB away from competing.

Houston is picking 3rd WITH Deshaun Watson. They have a head coach they have maybe 5% intention on keeping through next season. If I want a franchise QB, I don't want him exposed to a team this bad with a lame duck coaching staff.

  19. Houston actually has a pretty good example in their history of a good college QB having his career destroyed by a terrible team lol

(Wilson is a better prospect than Carr was but still a good example)

idk man. Carolina might legit be willing to offer more than both those teams.

Let’s not forget that NYJ and Miami are both in the middle of a hard reset haha, they probably like the idea of getting a lot of young talent this year and might not offer as much despite having more capital

Jets are likely stoked about Zach Wilson enough that they won’t give in to Houston’s lack of leverage and overpay for Watson. If I was Miami I would easily pull that trigger but I also don’t rule out them being like “shit we made the playoffs even with Tua being your typical sloppy rookie, let’s just focus on building from within.”

Meanwhile the ONLY way Carolina is becoming competitive any time soon is if they go get a quarterback. They don’t have the draft capital to significantly build their defense this year, and they’d have to trade a lot of picks to even DRAFT a good QB too, anyway. So if future picks gets the Watson trade done, that’s probably their fastest path to competitive seasons. I’m sure they’re also anxious to find out for real if Joe Brady / Matt Rhule can coach because Teddy isn’t good enough to give you that answer.

I think whoever gets him will be the team that does “overpay” given the context. Theoretically Watson is worth a lot less than the asking price because teams could wait a year and he’d still want out of Houston, but I don’t rule out some team being like “fuck that what’s the price to get him NOW with no competition from any other teams?”

    @GreatBeardRecs

I also agree with @CarpetElf. If you’re the Texans you can’t put a bandaid on this. It would be a bad move to draft a QB you are in no way ready to develop, into a situation he’s going to resent by default, because Deshaun Watson literally has publicly advertised how terrible of an organization it is under Cal McNair right now.

Their best option is literally to eat crow, lose face, and just try to get the best players they can so they get out of shitty-team purgatory ASAP. The PR nightmare is unavoidable and will only get worse the longer they sit on their hands. They’ve already lost the fans they were gonna lose with the Watson / Hopkins drama, that’s a sunk cost, don’t overthink just taking the best players on the board and fixing the team responsibly.

Like. They literally have a dummy coach, they so obviously hired a fall guy. How is that not the perfect excuse to go “alright I’m shipping off all the disgruntled veterans, taking BPA, blaming the coach when the quarterback position is awful, and hopefully we’ll field a real team and draft a real QB in 2022 a year removed from all this house cleaning.”

Yeah, but the mistake would be assuming anything HOU has done the last 2 years has been about being good. Its all ego and self preservation, so getting back a QB (or drafting one #2) is a big deal compared to getting like, Darnold or Teddy.

But they are in very different points in their hard reset. Miami has more cap space, a better roster, and a better coach than NY has. Their offers as a result would definitely be different

At $3mil/yr I'd agree; like, Cam was fine for NE at the price he was at. Teddy is a locked in $18mil cap hit...in CAR currently he's a bigger cap hit than Stafford or Carr while being nowhere near as good.

I'd say Teddy is detrimental to a trade; why take Teddy on a functionally guaranteed $18mil when I can get Andy Dalton for $5mil/yr or Fitzpatrick for like $8mil/yr. And HOU is tight to the cap already, so that's space they just dont have to waste. They can franchise Fuller for the cost difference between taking on Teddy and accepting any other replacement-level QB that spells 5-11 or 6-10
