Well you certainly no better than me because I would've thought Nashville made a lot of sense considering how big of a hit the titans and predators have been. But I definitely agree baseball is a different animal in terms of demographic so the preds and titans don't necessarily correlate with success.

On paper they're about 4 hours to the nearest market and obviously one of the fastest growing metros in the country.

Charlotte does seem to make more sense with their only real competition being the Braves...which i would think might be a big challenge considering they're just as close to Atlanta as Nashville?

Yeah that's the thing, Nashville seems alluring until you really start to think about how an MLB team would fit in there and what it really takes to nourish a baseball franchise long-term. Preds and Titans came in late 90s before the boom really got going and it was just good timing

Again though the issue isn't just that they're 4 hours from one market...Nashville is 4.5 hrs or less from three different MLB parks door to door (Cardinals, Reds, Braves) and all of those franchise have deep deep roots. I don't see their fans switching in a hurry. Anyone who lives within a few hours of Nashville already has a team they could root for. And the thing about baseball is, outside of huge coastal markets, you need a whole region to get behind the team, beyond just the immediate urban core. All the most successful middle-of-the-country baseball franchises have a pretty wide swath of geographic territory to pull fans from. And I don't see many people in rhe area outside of Davidson County getting interested in a Nashville team.

I don't actually know for sure that Charlotte is a slam dunk option but I think it has way less weaknesses than Nashville. Again though my top two choices are Portland and Montreal

  3. Went to Nashville in November to see Manchester Orchestra and I was shocked to see seemingly more Predators love than Titans.

Having said that, the southeast is Braves country so uh put the team in Portland and call them the Pickles and let me give you $40 for a hat.

Another thing to consider with the Titans and Preds is that along with good timing, the titans were an existing team with a good infrastructure in place. It’s easier to support a competitive team like that. While the NHL didn’t do any favors for the expansion teams of that era, the Preds were able to establish front office and coaching consistency early on until they started making the playoffs. But even in the early seasons they established the defensive mentality and hard to play against style and the city latched onto it. There is no guarantee something like that happens with baseball when you are competing for market share with several other teams. Personally, I think the NBA would do better in Nashville based on some of the young talent that comes out of there and the different schools at various levels up through Lipscomb, Belmont, and Vanderbilt.

I’ve been trying to ignore the inevitability of us losing him since it truly does not make sense, given how they’ve operated before, that they’d keep him

just been hoping that they will offer him something more enticing than your average team friendly deal, despite the injury

They will get in on the player’s ballot along with Schilling whenever they are first eligible. Still crazy to me Bonds and Clemens haven’t been elected yet.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Ortiz just misses it this year either.
