When you hit a mothafucka, you hit that mothafucka Prestigious

yeah, he’s a no from me *overall*, and the Northwestern game imo is a good example of issues I think he’s likely to have in the Pros.

    Google what an “example” is

you said Fields held the ball the longest / had the longest average time to throw of any feasible QB prospect on average, and it’s not close

  3. no i did not. the longest is Ramsey then Book then Fields, Ehlinger and Wilson not far behind.

Im only going off what you said. Perhaps you said it vaguely and I misunderstood.

  5. Fields is second in time in pocket by a decent amount compared to the other first rounders, maybe that was it.

  6. Almost a full second longer than TLaw

But yeah I’m not “writing him off / ignoring his positive traits” I’m just saying that the learning curve outweighs his positive traits in my opinion and, for me, subjectively, that’s not a tough call

He’s really athletic, elusive, good arm talent and accuracy, but he’s lacking in almost every more meta- QB trait that isn’t on that very basic level. A coach is gonna have to teach him all of that from scratch. Not usually the case for a QB picked in the top 5.

    yeah that’s probably it

If we were talking about Fields falling later in the first / to the early second, I’d be all for a QB needy team drafting him.

But when we talk about trading up and trying not to miss out on him in like, the top 5, that’s when I’m like... I’m out unless it’s New England getting that pick CHEAP like they did in this mock. That would be the best case scenario for an early / par value Fields pick panning out (so @EntryLevelDave, despite all this, I liked your move given the value and team.)

  10. Gun to my fucking head a card with "the New York Jets select Justin Fields" would already be in Goodell's possession if he were white.

not to undermine your overall point, but Zach Wilson’s white hahaha. He’d still go second.

and yeah, like I said before, I get that that’s a media trope but it’s not my angle at all. I’m just more critical about draft QBs than I should be I guess. I also don’t like Mac Jones as much as most.

  12. I don't care if it's your angle. You think it's their angle too? They never actively say "this player lacks the intelligence to improve and learn" but they damn sure only say that about a black QB. They're prospects. You're drafting traits and potential. If you're drafting only on what you get day one then you aren't drafting a QB pretty much ever.

I mean, we are :) but still

you should care if it’s my angle lol because you’re not arguing with Skip Bayless you’re arguing with me. I don’t give a fuck about the media’s racist opinion, I would be saying the same thing about Fields regardless

And right but you should always prioritize more potential and better traits over fewer desired traits and more obstacles in the way of that potential

And in fact there’s actually a lot more media sources saying he’s a top 5 caliber QB, I’m actually somewhat going against the grain here

Think about trey lance in a niners offense

  17. Josh Allen goes top 10 but sure Justin Fields is maybe an early second. The media does not intend to be racist. The media is racist because there are certain things that only get said towards black QBs. No one is out there consciously thinking these players are bad only because they are black. But when it comes to judge them they get NO leeway intellectually. It's either they know things (which, they pretty much never know things) or are too raw and a lost cause because their flaws are unfixable.

  18. I like all 5 QBs so what do I know lol

  19. Yeah, I like all five. Only one other time I can say that about and well, 3/5 turned out great and one of those five was the black QB that people said couldn't learn how to play in the NFL and then went to an elite coach so I feel good about my chances in this situation.

again, you’re talking to me not the media. I am obviously not doubting the intellect of another black man. I just think compared to other developmental prospects Fields is exceptionally reliant on his athleticism and more behind than acceptable on reads and progressions.

I am not making a comment on his learning ability. I am making a comment of where his game is right now. It’s not; “you’re either raw or you’re polished”. It’s, how far along are you? How much does the coach need to teach you from scratch in order for you to be able to handle managing a game as a starter? Fields imo is farther from that than other developmental QBs who fell.

josh Allen bewilders me. I would not have taken him in the top 10 and I would have apparently been very wrong.

  21. Though in this situation that would make Trevor Lawrence the bust so no thank you

  22. I'll leave it at this.

come on man. No one said Lamar “can’t learn how to play in the NFL” and no one is saying that about Fields.

you wouldn’t have taken Allen in the top 10 either. You hated him as a prospect. Why all the logical somersaults?
