Bateman is somehow underrated in a lot of scouting circles. Just turn on the tape. Dude can play. And there’s nothing to indicate he won’t apply his excellent route running on his current route tree to any new routes he’s taught.

Recently re-watched Justin Fields tape against Northwestern, and yeah I’m going with #notgood. He has developable traits, but right now it’s a no from me dawg.

but, still with the caveat that there are a couple teams who could prove me wrong. Including New England.

I’m not gonna say he WILL suck, just that if I’m scouting and he’s our best option, I’m advising the GM to pass on QB this year. He’s not a Mahomes / Watson / Lamar type of QB who is developmental but still a pretty sure bet. Not even close imo. He has a long way to go in terms of pocket presence, field vision, and decision making speed.

Yeah, I revisited a game against a very balanced defense that exposes his flaws. It was a bad game, but not an anomaly. Its just one of the few times in his college career that he actually gets in trouble for the bad habits he has all the time

Fields holds onto the ball SO LONG for a guy who played in such a simple passing offense. I don’t see anything that’s like “yeah I’m excited to teach him how to go through progressions when he DOESNT have a perfect pocket most the time.” I see it and I’m like damn, coach has his work cut out for him I guess
