Apparently Carolina said not to giving him 3.5 million a year like he wanted. They typically undervalue all their players so when he requested that $$$ they just decided to trade him instead of working out a deal. Thought that the 3 months he performed did not give them enough time to earn that much money. That's what I'm seeing from the NHL beat guys on twitter anyway. Good for Yzerman.
So are they gonna sign Bernier or Mrazek or Reimer to a $2-$3M deal or what lol. Ned is younger and better than all those guys and they’ll end up probably the same as Ned costs anyway right?
Shouldn’t we know Ovi’s new contract by now? Everyone said it was “in a drawer waiting to be signed” for weeks now, I figured that would be the first thing we heard today
Just baffling to think Carolina just lets Ned get traded away because they didn’t want to give him $3 million unless they are confident in a plan for a good replacement. I have no problem with Bernier as the backup (but if they end up giving him around $3 million then that’s just a huge insult to fans and Ned). Maybe they just really believe Mrazek can get them to the cup and are gonna re-sign him. Still in a bad mood from that trade because they deserved to get more in return than a backup-level goalie and 3rd round pick, but I guess I need to wait and see Waddell’s full plan.
Waddell: "We tried to get a contract done with Ned, and we couldn't get one done. The agent was playing very hard" Considering Carolina reportedly offered him a measly $1.5 million and Detroit quickly got a reasonable deal, I don't really think the agent was the problem
Today is the day that trades and side deals for Seattle were supposed to come flooding in at noon but yeah... looks like they just didn't do a very good job at reaming teams like vegas did.
I’m not gonna get mad and throw rocks like everyone on Twitter but... there are a handful of picks they made that just don’t make sense to make unless you had a deal. Picking Quenneville comes instantly to mind. Why pick him without getting at least something for it? If their staff actually thinks he’s good that’s a much bigger concern to me than not having a bunch of picks in side deals.
It seems like some gms alluded to the fact that ron was asking for too much, but for him to not just lower that and still take some randos, that’s ridiculous
I thought about that since ron is a big draft guy but that seems wild, to pass up on being a yearly playoff contender and just building on that like the golden knights did and instead be a semi-tanking team for a few years? That just seems ridiculous. Not to mention they may not even win the lottery to get wright or michkov lol also, they won’t be thatttt bad, unless they have more trades coming.
I get that with February possibly being almost a total loss as far as regular season games if they do have the olympics, but man, most of these months are a game almost every other day the entire time. for Seattle: November - 13 games December - 14 games January - 16 games March - 13 games April - 14 games I’m sure almost every team is the same so I’m not saying “woe is me” for Seattle in saying “woe is me” for every player lol
Los Angeles released a schedule “video” and on the ‘rivals only’ scene they still had Arizona listed and they rightfully are getting roasted for it lmao
