In Pronger’s breakdown, does he have a section for fines for when he needs to elbow someone in the head or stomp someone with his skate? Seems like a joke question, but it’s kinda not.
who remembers when Chris Pronger was technically still an "active" player due to his contract yet was voted into the HOF? great rules the NHL has
I mean, even if he was playing, it'd have been in Arizona, which I don't think qualifies as "playing" in the NHL.
I remember when the rumour was his wife found Edmonton to cold so he was told to demand a trade. He did end up in Anaheim, so that maybe have been true. Worked out well for him though.
Don’t fines come off their pay cheque? It’s nice that fans wanna support their guys, but he can afford to pay the fine and he got it for the middle finger and not for anything he physically did to Kane.
I think it's more the principle than the money. League will fine players for the dumbest shit but will turn a blind eye to injurious plays. Google Sidney Crosby and Marc methot.
Been stuck on 20 NHL arenas I've seen a game in for awhile now but tonight I get to add going to a game at TD Garden to the list.
NHL has never been consistent. I actually find they generally don’t protect their star players. Think back to the very late blindside hit in Crosby against Washington, or the take down major leg injuries Stamkos and McDavid have suffered. That said, star players like Matthews and Malkin have both been hit with suspensions recently. The fine was for a finger. A 5 year old knows better than to give the finger. The principle is lost in this case. If he got a fine for jumping Kane and trying to stick up for his guy that different. Kane’s ex wife even donated to this fund. Kane has done so much for bad stuff lately I’m surprised he’s in the league. That said, the middle finger was so lame.
imagine the amount of copium you need to believe that they are simply resting a 20 year old averaging like 0.3 ppg, while playing all the rest of the veterans regularly
Not really. Every league enforces some form of punishment for that because they realize the game is also marketed to kids and kids imitate players and as grown athletes you should be able to handle yourself enough to not give someone the middle finger, especially when you’re wearing gloves 99.9% of the game. Just a reality that’s existed for a long time.
My favorite video game when I was 10 years old had Scott Stevens on the cover, a guy who was openly celebrated for turning other players brains into primordial soup.
You can’t spray an opponent with a water bottle, that’s a fine. Players know this. Fighting comes with a consequence. A 5 minute penalty. Players know this. The guys play in the top league in the world, not some beer league with no spectators.
