Love PK, but this is what hockey is sadly. Kids from rich white families who only interact with other rich white families. Most pros are of the Max Domi/Tony DeAngelo tree and are just better at keeping their racist views private or in their Instagram likes.

Minor hockey rinks are the most vile places heave ever been to & stuff like what happened to Jordan is pretty common. It’s even worse in youth hockey and it drives a lot of kids of color away from playing because they & their parents rightfully don’t want to devote hours of their time to the sport. Especially since the kids doing the racist shit never get caught or punished because their parents think the same way or just excuse it immaturity.

It’s a little better than it used to be, because you’ve got good youth programs outside of the the usual markets, but so much of this shit goes down to “if you see something say something” & the kids who call it out are usually the ones who get in trouble or get bullied in retaliation.

Jordan’s teammates going after Panetta immediately is more unity than any of the virtue signaling statements teams & players send out when something like this happens, though. It makes me a little more hopeful than usual.

 

And fucking there it is. “I wasn’t being racist, you just thought what I did was racist and I’m sorry you’re offended.” Of course the let’s go brandon section of hockey fans are buying it.
