In a regular season that showed all the reasons why the playoffs should be expanded, the playoffs themselves have shown why they shouldn’t happen at all.

And it’s a shame to see after an interesting season. Bummer. I think it’s obvious that Michigan was going to fall flat on their face in their first CFP.

They don’t mean anything. The players are largely unmotivated as it would seem.

this is 100% where I’m at. No need to expand because not a single year has shown that there’s enough teams qualified or worthy of playing against the top 2 or 3. we’ve never had a year with two competitive playoff games, and most years, neither has been competitive.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

As an MSU fan, this is so satisfying. All the shit I’ve gotten from Michigan fans from when MSU got crushed by Bama. Coming full circle. Love it.

We're having games played anyway. We might as well have them be meaningful

There’s only been 3 one-score games out of 16. Only one 4-1 upset. I don’t see how adding in teams these four already beat makes it any better. I could be wrong easily, I admit that. The BCS wasn’t great, I agree there too.

I was very excited for playoffs, but only Oklahoma-Georgia a few years back really lived up to what my expectations were for what they’d be like at the semifinals. It’s nothing like the excitement of the final four in March Madness. I know that’s why you play the games, but every year of this thus far you could call the two finalists with ease, besides the first year with Ohio State getting the 4-1 upset.

But I’m also fine with bowls for every 6-6 team because these unpaid athletes get swag and other things out of them that rewards them where they should be receiving more financial compensation that they’re bringing to their programs.

My counter, then, is they need to do a better job selecting the teams. Not add more teams that don’t belong, which is what expansion would lead to.

until we see a season where enough teams belong to warrant all four selections (we’ve literally never seen that happen) then expansion isn’t necessary.

if the argument is to have more games like the two we’ve seen tonight then whatever sure

We would have fewer games like this if it were expanded

I’m also for fewer bowl games, but I know that’s an unpopular take and I recognize that Just because I have no interest to watch them doesn’t mean others don’t.

It’s so challenging though with such a vast amount of conferences/schedules etc. i mean I fully agree that the selection committee has to a better job to prevent garbage games like this, but an expansion would resolve this in many ways.
