Who actually expected Saleh to hold against the Chiefs offense? Dude held the team to ten points before the 4th quarter and his pass rush (notably Bosa and Buckner) was crushing it. You really can't ask for much more when going against arguably the best offense in the league.

 

Saleh just kinda did what he did all year which is fine IMO

But I do think this game is a good example of how the 49ers just have a loaded defense and Saleh isn't exactly a world beating coordinator teams should be pursuing (also just my opinion)

 

Conservative coaching strikes again. Maybe 2020 will be the year teams stop doing it and realize it's bad

I also don't necessarily think Shanahan coached THAT conservatively honestly. I don't think him being conservative blew it, I think him not sticking to the plays we saw working and finding ways to continue to execute those plays is what blew it. Once that happened they were pretty much in a situation where rather than having the option to have Jimmy throw, they HAD to have Jimmy throw, which he was already being suppressed from doing so...disaster.

 

I mean you can maybe mention a team blowing a lead by blaming the DC just a bit but okay

The 49ers defense looked tired and Sherman looked pretty fucking slow. I love ya elf but please take the blinders off in regards to Shanny, he coached like a coward.

I think he's just trying to offset the general "everything is Shanny's fault" that seems to be going around and offer other pieces of the puzzle. He knows in general Shanahan could've done better in moments at the end of the game, he's just trying to reflect that it's not ALL him and losing was avoidable even with Shanahan's bad decisions

 

What blinders? Ive blamed his coaching but its wild that he gets the entire blame for this AND the Atlanta one. Especially ATL.

 

Shanny doesnt call defense or tell his QB to throw the ball poorly

 

That's fair, Shanahan is seemingly the type that tries to outsmart himself, like he can't sit by and continue doing what was successful, it's the same issue with McVay

For the record, I do like Shanahan. I think he’s one of the best coaches in the league. It just sucks that this wasn’t one of his best games. Nor was it one of Jimmy G’s.
