I dont think the players want expanded playoffs. Idk if its the main reason but last summer i heard someone from MLB talking about how it waters down competition, you only have to be “just good enough” now to make playoffs if its expanded, makes signing big names to big deals less appeitizing if you only need to get to like 75-80 wins to have a shot at the extra wild card spots.

 

I mean it's not like players are being signed anyways right now haha

 

Good for rejecting that. Hate pitchers hitting but hate more teams in the playoffs more.

 

Yeah basically i'm the same mindset, you could talk me into the universal DH but if that has to be sacrificed in order to ensure that there aren't like 16 playoff teams, i am A OK with it.

I could be happy with a compromise of universal dh and a wild card 3 game series between the 2 teams in each league.

 

Like the Sox deal for Ottavino and Frank German. This is the stuff the Sox should be doing, getting prospects back for taking on contracts.

I don’t understand this move from a Yankees perspective unless they have another move lined up for the pen that’s as good as Ottavino or cheaper.

 

I'd guess they want to hold on to expanded playoffs until CBA negotiations at the end of the season. That's the biggest thing that ownership wants that they have say over and that doesn't cost them much. So keep that chip in your pocket and off the table until you really need it maybe?

Yeah this is why I have an issue with writers voting for the HOF. Also for the opposite how writers will hold grudges against players who were mean to them so they won’t vote for said player.

 

My love of baseball gets cut in half with anything more than 6 teams per league. It's that severe my hatred for expanded playoffs.
