I'm glad we're in the days where almost all the replies to that acknowledge shitty owners being cheap, instead of the old echo chamber of "yAnKeEs BuY cHaMpIoNsHiPs"

The NHL salary cap upper limit is $80 million. There is very little reason MLB teams should be paying less for their *larger* rosters than NHL teams are for theirs.

Its pretty remarkable how much payrolls have gone up in the past 20 years. 20 teams have payroll of 100mil+. In 2010 10 teams had a 100mil payroll. In 2000 .....0 teams.

Since 2010, and definitely since 2000, the MLB has seen bigger returns on both local and national media deals, and just in general 20 years is a large chunk of time. We have seen players and agents continue to attempt to push harder and harder for more expensive contracts, and even back in 2000 we saw it with the A-Rod deal in Texas, which isn’t even that far from current top deals... kinda showing just how big it was to happen back then.

There are players in the last few years being rewarded 10+ million in arbitration alone, and this year you’ve seen some questionable guys being non-qualified because their teams just don’t want to spend the money on a one year deal for them because salaries have gotten so high during team controlled years... good thing, but interesting to see the state of MLB payrolls.

I understand the joke is that a minor league team wants to take him, but isn’t the implication that he would want to sign with the Yankees?

I’m saying that, if that were to manifest, it would make my already tumultuous existence as a Rays fan even more annoying given the already overwhelming home run power on that team

Edit: I guess it could be assumed that he has the Mets in mind. I’m just not yet accustomed to thinking that people emphatically want to go to the Mets which has obviously changed with the change in philosophy/attitude of the new Mets owner.

I mean maybe HE would want to sign with the Yankees but there's zero chance of that with the Yankees OF lol. Only leaves Mets as a possibility since I doubt Boston is signing anything big.

Idk, Springer to me feels like a guy who will just fall off a cliff like Ellsbury and Crawford did. I could be wrong obv
