Sorry for the sexism your boss displayed, but honestly the hair code/appearance thing is how the majority of corporate America operates and what you described really isn't out of the ordinary.

 

I understand there’s probably a plurality when it comes to corporations expecting that, but i had worked at Winn-Dixie before that and they didn’t enforce hair length, facial hair, or jewelry standards, so I think the experience almost immediately soured on me.

Also, it was less about the standards and more about the new employee training videos and reading material you had to go through before getting hired in which they specifically state that their goal was to present the same visual message that was established when George Jenkins opened his first store.

The way they drilled the message of American traditionalism into your heads is what really turned me off working there.

Love the good ole Publix deli though.
