  1. I'd like this to be a year free from injuries after last year please and thanx.

Damn and it’s a free agent year for Paxton, right? Hopefully he shoves for the last two months or so she gets paid still

Was psyched for his season after the playoffs. Unfortunately he has some injury every year, sure it will limit his FA ceiling

Btw call me a sucker but this the same red sox franchise that won 3 titles in the past 15 years and offered a dude $300 million and got turned down.

They swapped him for a good prospect and can still technically sign him next year. I think it's a smart move

there's already a top cap in baseball. its the lux tax. its a self-imposed cap portrayed to the public as a competitive balance rule. it gives them a scapegoat for why a team can't "just" sign that next star player. it gives the richest teams an excuse to shave off their salaries and keep their salaries fairly set. its a rule to keep prices lower.

@slimfenix182 does the Betts trade impact his rookie card price at all?

I'm not too sure yet I looked at ebay yesterday at some sales but it had been a long time since I looked at his cards before that. Going to a big name team that's probably WS bound can only be good I'd think

Now moving from the AL East parks to some very pitcher friendly parks in the NL West (aside from Coors obviously) is something to watch though

You think he wants to return to that franchise after what they just did to him?

Also, Nats got rid of their marquee player and that turned out pretty good for them the following season...

Probably not and i dont actually think it's a possibility... more so I dont think red sox trading betts is that bad or some sort of sign that the team isn't trying

We're not talking about soft caps, which is what the luxury tax functions as.

I was in one but I'm about to quit, I joined a season or two in and all the other teams had stacked teams and already had top prospects on their farm teams as well. After like 4 years I finally got to being an average team, it was such a waste of time.

if that's the one i am in, yea, i am out, too. its not a franchise league that seems to generate much turnover.

Its way harder doing dynasty without minorleagueball being an active site anymore, fuck vox. Sickles writes for the athletic but I don't feel like paying for something that should be free content and without the message board discussions.

Had the opportunity to go to a talk at my school today given by Cardinals GM Mike Girsch about the use of analytics in baseball. Nothing super groundbreaking for folks who follow baseball closely, but it was really cool to hear nonetheless. He got a few questions from students who were also clearly Cards fans about player valuation re: letting Ozuna walk and how front offices deal with opt-outs like Arenado has, both of which to his credit he answered earnestly.

He also talked about roboumps as if it's a foregone conclusion that they're coming to the MLB eventually. It came up as part of a discussion about using analytics to evaluate pitch framing, and how baseball is going to have to decide whether to use the same auto strike zone regardless of pitch count or try to recreate the ump effect of a different zone on 3-0 than 0-2.

Really cool stuff, was awesome to meet him--my occasional frustrations with the Cards FO aside haha.
