It would have been such a bad look for the league to say they wouldn't suspend players and go around and do that. That action would have led to years in courts with the players union.

Also it would have been incredibly difficult to prove that each player was actually doing what is suspected. Every hitter could just be saying "I couldn't hear that banging"

 

Agree with the first point

If it comes out that any player disagreed so bad they wore earplugs to the plate, MAYBE, but nah to the second part

I'm still surprised Beltran was involved. He really wanted that ring though I guess.

 

I'm only going further on this so others reading will try to see why the MLB didn't want to go the court route:

"I hear lots of noises coming from all parts of the stadium"
"I just go to the plate and focus on where the ball is going"

 

Players can't wait for a pitcher to tip their pitches, I don't think there was one player here that knew what to listen for and ignored that information. They didn't bang a trash can for that long if it was getting lost in crowd noise.

Sure it's hard to prove the benefit by any standard or stats you would need to prove guilt individually, but anybody making excuses for "oh I didn't hear it or use it" is full of shit and everyone knows it. I know why players aren't getting suspended though, yes.

That’s what I thought but my friend said it was legit. Guess we’ll see. Is strange the Mets haven’t issued a statement or Beltran himself hasn’t.

 

the more time passes the louder their silence gets. whichever road they end up taking, they need to say something.

Seeing a lot of chatter on Twitter that the Mets are going to make an announcement soon. Don’t know how legit the posts are though.

 

They should be forced to have Mike Matheny as a manager

 

Force them to choose someone to be player/manager

 

Would like to see Buck get a job but not with Hou/Bos

 

Make sure it’s a player who can come up with another one of them cheating schemes

 

I love that the Mets have to pay two managers this year and neither will be coaching the team this season

 

They only don’t have to pay Beltran if he steps down himself, right?

 

I think they still have to pay his signing bonus, at the very least. If it's guaranteed then they definitely have to.

 

I could see that being a possibility though I know nothing about contracts
