Looking more and more like the Rockies might part with Arenado...

 

I won't allow myself to believe the rumors that we might be in on Arenado until I see the dude wearing birds on a bat

 

If he becomes a Cardinal, I would legit shed actual tears. Scott Rolen was my favorite player growing up, so seeing another stud at the hot corner would be a dream!

 

Why wouldn't they just sign Donaldson?

 

Donaldson will get 4 years and I don't think he even should. Cardinals best stay away from that.

 

Cardinals have long been linked to Donaldson but at this point I think they'd be terrified of rapid age-related regression. We already have a 3B on the roster in rapid age-related decline who previously put up a (borderline) MVP caliber season.

 

Sure, but would you rather give up prospects or just $$. I guess it depends on if they're in 'win now' mode or not

 

I refuse to believe the team will actually spend money to get a player

 

They had a deal in place to get Stanton (he had the no-trade) and they brought in Goldy last December. I know it has certainly been a slow off-season, but I think they've demonstrated that they'll make a big splash.

 

I think they should be with bringing in Goldy last season. I know they had a sad departure from the playoffs, but they were still 4 games away from a World Series. If they could manage to get the trade for Arenado and keep Carlson, I think it's a deal they must make.

 

Yeah I mostly agree with this, although it was kind of flukey that we even got to the NLCS, Braves were a better team than us. I think any deal for Arenado will involve Gorman, which is logical and I'm fine with since it means Carlson probably stays

 

I think the team would rather deal from positions of surplus (young outfielders and pitchers) plus a premium guy in Gorman than spend money. But that's just a guess.

 

Apparently the twins still have casual conversations with Donaldson, what I’m hearing is they are offering 80-85 mill for 4 years. Curious if they cough up what he wants eventually though, highly doubt it.

 

Liberatore is super good but since it's the Rays I'm terrified of who we gave up bc you don't win trades with TB

If this is a real good prospect wouldn't it have made more sense just to keep Pham?

I love him but I feel like he's never going to stop striking out at least 40% of the time

 

The general consensus on armchair GM social media seems to be that the Cards are gonna flip him for Arenado

 

That would be incredible but I feel like it's much more likely that this just means we're going to agree to a deal with Ozuna

 

Ozuna would be the safer bet imo but at the same time, having Arenado would make the Cards a true contender for this season. Guess we gotta see.
