If Posasa fell off the ballot after the first time, I don't see McCann or Martin in, even with how much more value is rightfully placed on defense with each passing year

 

lol. Russell Martin and Brian McCann aren't gonna sniff the HOF. Mac likely gets in the Barves HOF though.

 

I don't necessarily agree with that article by the way. Pitch-framing metrics are really new and understandably volatile--plus as the article admits we don't have good data until the late 80s. And even if that metric stabilizes, I doubt the BBWAA is going to look at the value-added from the addition of pitch framing stats and suddenly decide Russell Martin is a HOFer.

Posada should be in the Hall in my book, sucks that he's not. He'll make it in via one of the committees eventually though

 

But these attempts to quantify difficult-to-quantify aspects of the game like pitch-framing fascinate me. Even in the current era of data-driven valuation there will always be "intangible" aspects to the game but I think it's cool trying to quantify them nonetheless

 

It was interesting hearing some of the Brewers pitchers talk about how much Grandal helped them this year for that reason. Especially a curveball pitcher like Jordan Lyles who throws a lot of borderline strikes.

 

I dont want to go with consensus but damn yea I think cards and dodgers take it.
