It’s the right move moving on from Dombrowski. He did exactly what he was brought in to do but now the franchise is at a different point. Dombrowski isn’t the one you want running the team moving forward with a lot of tough choices in the horizon (ie what to do with Mookie if he won’t sign a contract extension).

Eddie Romero is supposedly a really smart baseball mind and has brought on a lot of international talent.

 

That seems like the right thing to do

 

I don't get the Dombrowski takes. He's really good, and has shown he can build a team under any circumstance. He helped construct World Series teams for three different teams. One of those was an expansion team, and the other a franchise that was in the dumps. His Florida team got deconstructed right in front of him, but in Detroit he kept them relevant for a decade. Now, he's had winning records in every season in Boston, while breaking their win record.

The reasoning for Boston to ditch him for another GM better equipped to their situation just doesn't feel valid to me.

Word is Dombrowski never really got along with the rest of the front office staff and alienated himself.

He was brought in for a quick fix on Cherington’s mistakes to try to turn the franchise around which he did. But the organization is in a much different state in 2020 than they were in 2015. Dombrowski isn’t known for restocking the farm system which is what the Sox need right now.

He has 1 year left on his contract and you really don’t want a lame duck GM making the biggest moves in the franchise (what to do with Mookie and JD Martinez) when he might not be around the next year.

As a long time Sox fan I have no problem walking away from Dombrowski. Just because he had success in the oast doesn’t mean he’s the right fit for the future. This winter is going to be the most interesting offseason in awhile.... and I’m scared.
