Falcons select Willie Gay, Jr., LB, Mississippi State He plays a similar fast, flying brand of defense that they have on the team with Deion Jones and Dante Fowler, an energy also matched by first round pick K'Lavon Chaisson. It appears to me the Falcons stand to benefit from getting faster on that side of the field and that's what they intend to do. Gay ran a 4.46 dash, had a 39.5" vert, and broad jumped nearly 12 feet, he's as explosive as it gets for the position. Willie Gay sports a thicker frame (241 lbs) and more leverage skills than Jones. He offers potential run stuffing capabilities at the LOS down the road. He also appears coachable / not too far off when it comes to dropping into zone coverage. His read and react skills are spotty & It'll take some time to determine whether he's a better SAM or WILL, but the Falcons need both.
In the second you disrespect the Golden God Dawson Knox by trying to replace him with a guy whose name sounds like a sneeze and then in the third you gave them a guy that is a better fit as a 3-4 OLB. Nothing personal, but I'd want Brandon Beane on the first plane out of Buffalo for this draft
Kmet sounds like a sneeze? ....you sure you're sneezing right? Anae can play either 4-3 or 3-4 and I think he'd fit great in Mcdermott's defense.
Scouting report wise I just personally don't like the way Anae sounds. Maybe he would be a good fit but between the NFL.com and TDN reports I'm luke warm at best on him. Kmet is probably going to be a fine player but I wouldn't be thrilled that they traded back into the 3rd for Knox last year, traded this year's #1 for Diggs and then used this year's #2 on Kmet. That feels very Bears-y to me
Eagles and Bears have each only had 2 picks so far but I think I really hit on both to make up for lack of draft volume. Eagles: Justin Jefferson Yetur Gross-Matos Bears: Lloyd Cushenberry III Brandon Aiyuk
I mean...I don't know that I'd go that far. They did win a Super Bowl with a group of turd sandwiches at the LB spot and they've NEVER put premium draft capital into that spot so I guess this isn't surprising. But that back half of the defense is woof city to me right now outside of Darius Slay.
I do have a couple guys in mind for these picks coming up. But the two guys I’ve drafted so far are day one starters. They’ll make the eagles better.
I think by drafting Matos, they're basically throwing in the towel on Derek Barnett and to a lesser extent the other guys they've drafted in recent years (Shareef Miller/Josh Sweat, etc).
