@EntryLevelDave lemme make it easy. I'll give the Cardinals a sixth round pick to drop two spots this round haha.
Pick 114, the Cardinals select Terrell Burgess S, Utah. I'm surprised to see both CB and Safety so low on the teams listed needs for the Draft Network. Coverage seemed to be a massive issue for the Cards all year. Adding Burgess adds a versatile safety to the mix who specializes in covering a 20-yard range from the LOS. Should fit in well defending tight ends, RBs out in the route and on 3rd down. TDN refers to him as a high effort, high IQ explosive athlete who can roll into the slot to tackle and cover and work well in sub-packages. Sign me up.
Pick 115, the Cleveland Browns select Shaquille Quarterman, LB, Miami This is probably a bit of a reach, but I just don't care. The Cleveland Browns run defense was soft last year. They were 30th in the league in yards allowed per game. Their secondary is really good, and they've got some pass rushers, so Quarterman's sole job is to find a RB with the ball and bring the boom. That's what he does. That's his best skillset, and that's what we'll use him for. From TDN: "This is a violent hitter in the middle who thrives in run defending and blitzing as a forward playing linebacker who imposes his will on the opposition. Terrific finisher as a tackler and tremendous pop in his pads." I'm all the way in.
man Miami is going to need to get back into this range they pick at 70 and then don't pick again til 141
Yeah, i really like both of those picks. I honestly think i'm having three solid, albeit unsexy drafts.
I like my picks for the most part. If I was in charge of the Eagles, I may have gone as far as trading out of the first round from 21 so I could still take a WR early in the second and try to pick up another third rounder along the way. What sucks is the Eagles pick at 21 in the first, 53 in the second, then not again until 103 in the third because they sent their original third rounder to the Lions for Slay. That big gap is where I saw a lot of players I liked for the Eagles go.
Took some extra last minute scouting to decide cause all 4 of my targets are still on the board lmao. But I decided I don’t want to miss this one. Jaguars select Tyler Johnson, WR, Minnesota This dude has incredible body control and lines up all over the field - at 6’2” 206 he is effective both on the boundary and over the middle. He is the best Minnesota receiver of all time, setting school records in every category and posting two 1000 yard / double digit TD seasons. A lot of people question his lack of long speed but being quicker than fast helps him separate in this category. We’d be bringing him a team with DJ Chark and Dede Westbrook who both ran 4.34 second dashes so that’s not a concern for me. While he’s not the most elusive guy, he is a pretty smooth runner with great start-stop acceleration. His footwork as a route runner is pretty consistent as well. What he brings to the table is something Dede and DJ don’t have - while DJ is a deep threat and Dede specializes in mismatches underneath as a slot threat, Tyler Johnson is a skilled possession receiver in the intermediate part of the field. He is talented at high pointing the ball due to his basketball background, with a great vertical leap he can access mid-sprint, and he’s smart to attack the ball in the air early instead of waiting for it to descend to him. His ball skills / footwork on the perimeter are MONEY, showing the ability to track the ball at awkward angles while tiptoeing the sideline. I’ve always been underwhelmed with DJ Chark’s physicality at the catch point, he’s more finesse despite being 6’4”. Johnson brings an ability to bully defenders on dig routes, fade routes, slants and the like. My dude also runs a mean corner-post down the deep middle of the field. The cherry on top? Johnson is a highly motivated run blocker and that pushes the needle just enough for me to draft him over other WR I like. Between Kmet and Johnson I’m very happy to add two targets for Minshew who are tough over the middle of the field, can high point the ball while taking hits in traffic, and help clear lanes for Fournette on running plays.
Yeah I thought I was having a hard time deciding until I revisited the tape. Johnson is legitimately BPA right here in my opinion.
Tyler Johnson is my pick for this year’s WR who falls to either a very late round or undrafted that the internet liked a lot more than GMs. Didn’t get a Senior Bowl invite, didn’t test at the combine, and non-Combine players are probably hurt worse this year than usual with in person activities getting shut down
@CarpetElf i also really fucking liked Reshad Bateman, their other WR, when I was watching Minnesota tape. He’ll be a good prospect next year.
The other WR i was considering is actually like this and that’s part of why I didn’t take him. I and many of us think he’s good but his draft stock is not very high right now.
Carolina Panthers select Darrell Taylor, EDGE, Tennessee Darrell Taylor is a pass rush specialist. He won't offer much against the run but he should at least find a role early on as situational pass rusher. He is pretty damn good at it. He explodes around the edge and beats most OT he faces. But he doesn't win those battles with just speed. He has great balance and bend when getting past the tackle. It jumps off the screen at you. I have no doubt this athleticism will translate into the NFL and make him a solid depth player at worst. If he can develop some more pass rushing moves he could become starter quality. He does use a swim move on occasion but it needs some work. Big, big fan of Taylor.
Collin Johnson? yeah I’m really excited to see what happens. There are 23 receivers in TDN’s top 150, which is insane, and there’s no way 15% of the players drafted in the first 4 rounds are WRs (right?)
Great value in round four. He lacks an inside move or good hand technique but his flexibility and burst are elite
No Collin’s just not very good lol, he’s basically all size - college CB1s did not have much trouble with him. But you’re close.
