We almost got through round 4 last mock when people had even less information *shrug* I'm not saying we should do all 7 haha... I have very few fifth round targets that I've been able to scout, and they might all go in the fourth just due to name recognition. But in most drafts there's still a decent pool of quality / bargain players who might develop into starters in round 4. So I think at least finishing round 4 is worthwhile. Anyone who has just no knowledge of any of the players can defer to group picks.
That's what I'm saying, up to the end of round 3 took a week with the majority of that happening within the first 2 1/2 days. My schedule gets more sporadic, and so does this mock's. I want to make sure I don't hold you guys up for a day or two because I'm not around. I'd rather let you guys pick for Dallas / NY's few remaining picks and then commit to the final one. (Where AJ Green doesn't get traded on the premise of getting wild).
@CarpetElf takes all of mine lol.. Which is so stupid, we spend all draft season disagreeing with each other but then when it comes to Mock Drafts we want the same guys lol
meanwhile idk what it is but @xbrokendownx tends to fall in love with a lot of players I don't like / trust to be good lol. I mean, Brandon does his research and knows what he's talking about but I still tend to subjectively disagree with his scouting a lot haha
to be fair, there aren't a lot of players in this class I don't like I don't like Herbert I don't like Austin Jackson I don't love Kenneth Murray I don't love Delpit (like some of the other safeties better) those are the ones off the top of my head
Delpit gets way too much love. I think a lot of the LSU guys are getting elevated the way Alabama guys did for years and sputtered out.
Disagree about Delpit agree otherwise What don’t you like about Delpit? Let’s get into the nitty gritty when we talk about players. You never know, sometimes a person will say something I disagree with but then I’ll revisit the tape and see what they mean
I think he’s fantastic but that ceiling of potential is scheme specific. I’d use him specifically as a Cover 3 centerfielder who only occasionally drops into the box for blitz / short yardage packages. (JAX is exactly like this and puts a lot of pressure on one safety at a time in coverage so that they can stack the box.) That’s a hard skill set to find that also requires very good athleticism, and he has it. He’s rangy enough to cover both seams downfield, and determined enough in pursuit to still make run support tackles from back there. He’s not the hybrid man / zone box safety that McKinney is, but it’s just a different skill set. Both of those styles of play are really hard jobs lol so both safeties should be in demand, just by different teams.
his angles worry me and he is a piss poor tackler I am not sure he'll be able to cover consistently at the NFL level also
He’s too aggressive of a tackler but he has plus pursuit and downhill speed. I think that’s coachable. Granted he’s not a form tackler and that is concerning.
I was going to take Ashtyn Davis for the Panthers until Randall suckered me into trading back. I like Davis quite a bit.
Legitimately though Cover 3 heavy defenses don’t ask their deep safeties to shed blocks in the box. They strictly want that deep zone skill set because a good 95% or more of safeties coming out of college can’t handle that responsibility.
like I said, its not that I don't like Delpit. I do, hes OK to me. But I would not take him in the first round, especially not over guys like McKinney or Winfield Jr. if Winfield Jr. was a few inches taller, he'd be a top 10 pick IMO
I sneakily think that Miami ends up with him somehow their new DB coach Gerald Alexander was his DB coach at Cal
Like yeah Delpit isn’t a box safety but the whole point of drafting a deep-centerfield coverage specialist is so you can have more players in the box anyway. So that’s a moot point. It’s still a rare skillset and that drives up his value.
I think it’s Winfield’s injury history that’s holding him back he has no issues being physical. Though it is possible teams see his size as a reason why he’s fragile
