Yeah but WR is a huge need for y’all too. You can justify it. Especially if Fulton and Henderson are both gone by your pick
Like, heck I wish the Jags didn’t create all these extra needs with dumb trades. Before we did that Jefferson was an option for me at pick 20.
For sure, which is why I wouldn't be opposed to it. I just think the Eagles can trade back and get a guy like Jalen Reagor and also accumulate more picks in the process. Honestly, I just hate where the Eagles are picking. Also, with how free agency has panned out, a lot of teams in front of the Eagles have a need at WR and CB so the odds of a high-end prospect falling to the Eagles is unlikely
Just Jefferson is a stride receiver with below average agility. He absolutely does not have short area burst. He's a route runner that's willing to take a hit but isn't good in the short passing game. His steps are long which cuts a lot of his ability to play all over the field in the NFL. He's a lot like Tyler Boyd with more straight line speed. I like his ability to work his leverage and create space in a vertical route. Just not sure he's a real #1 despite his route running. He's got mitts though.
To be fair no one said he’s Michael Thomas haha. Like most slender / tall receivers, yeah, he’s not a short route guy who excels in short area quickness. His center of gravity is too tall for that. If he did he’d be the top WR in this class. Players like Thomas display incredible flexibility to make cuts like that with his build. I don’t think any team at all would draft Jefferson for that. But in the medium to deep route range he’s on that cusp between very good and blue chip prospect. It’s more about deception and footwork downfield than it is about agility and stride speed per se, if he’s efficient with his route technique it shouldn’t hinder him too much. & having phenomenal catch in traffic skills makes up for his lack of 20 yard shuttle type agility, don’t you think?
Like he’s a clear upgrade over Alshon Jeffery for Philly. Has more potential than Jeffery in every category pretty much. If you want that big bodied possession receiver Jefferson’s skill set is ideal.
I've actually heard or seen a couple of analysts compare Justin Jefferson to Keenan Allen or Michael Thomas. Of course, that has to be the absolute high end of his outcomes. If I knew Jefferson was going to have a good shot at realizing that kind of potential, smash that fucking button at 21
I mean, most receivers would be a clear upgrade over Alshon at this point. Did you watch that dude play in 2019? It was absolutely fucking brutal watching him gallop down the field after the catch. He's a fucking tight end at this point
To be fair I haven’t watched much eagles Jeffery and mostly still remember him from Chicago haha. He was p good there.
Yeah I’m trying to say that he’s not a Michael Thomas who can mimic a shifty slot receiver, which is rare. But he’s a lot better than your typical possession receiver and I used young Alshon as an example. Having great hands and jump ball skills can already make a WR proudctive, Jeffery / Allen Robinson had a couple 1k seasons despite being slow for the position. But on top of that Jefferson has much better long speed, and some finesse skills that most possession guys don’t have.
I just want some wide receivers who are strong route runners with good speed and can gain separation. I've watched too many slow receivers for the Eagles over the past couple years to want physical, jump ball receivers on this team anymore. We have Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert to fit that bill. No more need for more beefcakes on the field
In theory, every player has a HoF ceiling, it's more about a realistic target. A lot of these guys are within 20% of each other and I think Jefferson is far closer to Tyler Boyd than he is Keenan Allen.
Don't get me wrong I like the pick for the Eagles, just don't love the comps to him being this phenomenal prospect. If he went mid first all the way to mid second I wouldn't be shocked.
Right, I never get carried away by comps because it's still a total crapshoot regardless of what round they're drafted in. I'd be fortunate enough to watch the Eagles draft a wide receiver good enough to be signed to a second contract because the only to be signed to a second contract during Howie's tenure as GM so far is Riley fucking Cooper
The Eagles have drafted eight wide receivers since 2010 (when Howie Roseman took over as GM). They are the following: Riley Cooper Marvin McNutt Jordan Matthews Josh Huff Nelson Agholor Mack Hollins Shelton Gibson J.J. Arcega-Whiteside Now, Chip Kelly was the acting GM in 2015 when the team drafted Agholor in the first round. Regardless, not a great track record!
The Denver Broncos select: Matt Hennessy - Center - Temple Denver bolstered their interior by drafting Dalton Risner last year and signing Graham Glasgow this year, but they also lost Conner McGovern to free agency. Hennessy is a plug-and-play center that solidifies the Broncos interior offensive line.
