2020 CHORUS MOCK DRAFT 2.0: IS BLIMP STILL OUT THERE? • Page 37

  1. With a good QB, those WRs are fine imo

They have something called a Minshew. This is why I’m still not happy with the Epenesa pick. Could have had arguable the 2nd best offensive and 2nd best defensive player in the draft.

  5. I said fine not great lol

If a team is rebuilding I think WR is one of the last spots to invest. Especially if you have guys that are decent already.

  6. Does Randall think I’m gonna take his guy?

See, I disagree. I want WRs who have proven to be good already on my team so that Minshew, or whoever the future QB is, has the best chance to succeed early on instead of wasting years on their rookie contract trying to put talent around them and not having done enough. I’d say the same thing about offensive line, especially at the tackle position.

Excellent. Jets have traded pick 68 to the Jaguars for picks 73 and 140.

Jaguars select Cole Kmet, TE, Notre Dame.

Since @socklord questioned me saying this is a good TE class I looked into it and he’s right. It’s not. It has receiving options but none of the mid-late round guys project to being good blockers in the NFL.

A blocking TE is really important for offenses like ours that use a lot of shotgun & singleback runs - the TE is basically also our fullback and very active in motion on running plays. A receiving TE is needed because we just haven’t had one of the most important weapons in modern football the entire time they’ve been important. Plus Minshew could really use a target over the middle so he can get rid of the ball instead of dancing around. In addition to this, @CarpetElf ‘s insistence on it also persuaded me to find it imperative that we nab a guy who can do both.

(See I do listen to y’all.)

You damn right I tried to trade up above Matt for Moss. I thought he was an ordinary athlete and then I heard he played on a fractured foot last year... he might be way faster than he looked.

However, Kmet is a solid consolation prize. At 6’4” 260ish he has the requisite size and length to be a strong run blocker and shows it most of the time on film (although the Georgia tape highlights glaring flaws with his footwork.) I am confident he can be coached into more consistency here.

As a receiver he’s used to being a security blanket and making tightly contested grabs in traffic, Ian Book freaked out and threw him errant passes all day at ND. I saw a stat that he only dropped two “catchable passes” this year, which includes awkward throws & catches in traffic. Very reliable hands, and good physicality to “go get” the ball with a 37” vertical, highest of all TE at the Combine. His athleticism, size, and all around skill set should boost Minshew’s game immediately and also help hide how bad our guards are at run blocking.

It is a good TE class.

Minshew is going to throw to a TE regardless so it might as well be something not named James O'Shaughnosee or whatever

I think Matt has poisoned your brain Randall because you only love LSU guys now.

  12. I like the pick but he wasn’t on my radar. I’m sure he would’ve gone soon though

eh Randy Moss’s son was gonna have my attention regardless haha. He made great catches & clearly is the best blocking TE, but I thought he was a disappointingly slow route runner actually and didn’t want him until I heard about the fractured foot. Which explains that entirely.

I mean yeah Kmet is a second round prospect so I didn’t wanna take my chances and miss him once he fell to the third. We have extra mid round picks so I wanted to make sure the Jags are the team that got him. I was trying to get above Matt’s Seahawks and Bengals for Moss before.

  17. Carolina Panthers select Robert Hunt, G, Louisiana

I try to explain the reasoning for each pick rather than a scouting report of the player. So here ya go...

My goal this draft was to solidify each line. The defensive line was vastly improved in round one with the trade and pick. Now I complete my plan for the offensive line. Last round I selected Cushenberry, who played C for LSU, but I think he’d be just fine to start out at guard. Despite underperforming last season, we still have Matt Paradis at C. He was coming off a leg injury so I’m hoping he’s better in 2020. We also have Dennis Daley, an undrafted free agent last year who looked impressive at LT last season. The team apparently loves him and are planning to slide him inside, or just use him as depth across the line.

With that said, I’d still like to add another potential starter on the inside. Robert Hunt is a mammoth of a human and plays like it too. A true mauler. The idea of him and Cushenberry developing into our starting guards gets me excited. With this pick I think we’d have solid depth at every position across the line.

    OL:
LT Okung (with Little developing), LG Cushenberry, C Paradis, RG Hunt, RT Moton, and then Dennis Daley sliding in at RG/RT when needed

    DL:
DE Yannick, DT Short, DT Kinlaw, DE Burns

On paper, both lines have been greatly strengthened and I’m happy about that.

Thad Moss isn't even a + blocker at TE. This is what's crazy.

I definitely think @xbrokendownx was a risk to take Kmet here. He’s taken him here in a lot of Dolphins mock drafts he’s shown us in the Draft thread haha. Glad I finally found a trade up partner.

I’ve seen a lot of people disagree. Including @Night Channels. I personally think he’s better at it than Kmet (and by association better than the rest of the draft class, unless there’s some sleepers we aren’t hearing about before pro days)

He would get absolutely eaten alive as a blocker in the NFL. He has a decent profile as a wham blocker, but I dont think hes going to be anything other than serviceable at the NFL level.

  23. This would be such a perfect draft for the Panthers.

I expect the complete opposite to happen.
