I'll book going top 15 because 4-3 defenses pull their hair out trying to find a DE who can play both the run and the pass well.
I personally wanted a tackle until we blew up the rest of our defense and created more needs than we already had. Building this defense back up from scratch, takes priority over improving a decent even if underwhelming offensive line.
Our offense is intact and showed it can produce with proper coaching and gameflow. I also think this draft is deeper for offense than it is for defense. But thanks for making me explain my entire approach to this draft in lieu of y'all saying "well nfl.com has him at 46" haha. NFL.com is even worse than Dave Caldwell.
Sure, but going two defensive lineman in the top ten would be disappointing to me if I were a Jags fan, even if one of them is Derrick Brown
No son we are about to have a lockdown I'm not gambling my money lollll Real talk if things were normal I would take the bet he'd go pick 20 to JAX at the latest.
Well then you'd be the Jags fan that is still in denial because we are simply not about to field a competitive team next year no matter what at this rate. This is a "rebuild the core" year, we have a few ascending offensive weapons, one talented pass rusher, and basically nothing else right now.
Like, Minshew had time to dance all around and hold the ball forever last year. Even if I don't care for Norwell or Cam Robinson long term, I cannot stress enough that we only have one DE right now.
I've watched enough Eagles football to know that you can have as many good defensive lineman as you like, but it's not going to matter when you're corners can't cover for 2.5 seconds and get toasted on the regular
I'm not even suggesting that you should have taken an OT though! I think Minshew's mobility gives the Jags more freedom to pick BPA as opposed to being stuck in take-lock
I offered more to get Okudah than I offered to get Brown. I also tried to trade down to get better value out of the secondary. it just wasn't there. If you already have a decent quarterback, the next step to a rebuild is definitely to get your pass rush right. If those corners can't cover for 2.5 seconds what do you think happens when they have 4-5 seconds to throw? That just means even more options and more YAC. You give your secondary a chance to begin with by limiting the QB's window and disrupting the timing of his dropbacks.
Who outside of offensive tackles is better than Epenesa right here though? I took CeeDee Lamb last draft. That's a luxury at this point in our offseason of sabotage though. Especially in a very deep WR class.
The issue is there's a drop off after the top prospects in the draft and value isn't that great from picks 8 to 15. Then it picks back up. Someone has to get drafted here though. I think Epenesa is in that tier where teams who need a DE don't wanna lose him.
With the 11th pick, the New York Jets select: Andrew Thomas - Offensive Tackle - Georgia Joe Douglas' primary focus as GM of the NYJ is to fix the offensive line. The Connor McGovern signing was a huge step in the right direction. Having a solid center should eliminate a lot of the miscommunication we've seen from them since Nick Mangold retired. Tackle is still a huge concern and the team's #1 need. George Fant is a swing tackle that can play either side. He's a great fit in the zone scheme, but his contract has an easy out after one season. 2019 third rounder Chuma Edoga has great feet and athleticism but he's a right tackle only. Andrew Thomas gives them a foundation player on the offensive line. A player that can play on either side, but may be a better fit on the right side to start out...especially in a zone scheme. Too good of a player to pass on. Fundamentally sound and should be able to start from Day 1.
