Does it kind of seem like Marriage Story is losing momentum? I'm almost certain that Phoenix is winning over Driver now at least

 

it does seem like screenplay is probably its best bet now. maybe score too.

They should have Mulaney and Kroll host, that’s actually an amazing idea.

But whatever they don’t actually need a host. It was totally fine last year without one.

So I’ll be the first to admit I was dead wrong with my Sandler call a few weeks back. It’s a fucking shame though, having seen Gems a few times since then I have to say it’s one of the best performances of the year.

 

Being a good performance is usually a barrier to winning awards. It's about being showy.

 

To be fair, Uncut Gems Sandler is a pretty showy performance. At least I thought it was.

 

pattinson was best. him and driver.

 

I wonder how long the separate actor/actress categories will last. For all of their appeals to progressive values, it seems like an obvious mistake.

 

Yea, and only have one screenplay category while we’re at it

if there was no best (supporting) actress Oscar only Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep would get nominated for sure

 

There’s no real reason to divide best performances by gender but without the categories we’d probably have a lot less women nominated every year

these award shows are so dumb

 

Think of if we took that further. Is the answer to a lack of racial diversity a Best Black Actor award? What about Best Female Director?

 

I’m in agreement. It’s an antiquated distinction.

Baumbach and/or Gerwig - Marriage Story/Little Women (director)

most of these are somewhat reaches bc a lot of my “hopes” either have 0% chance or are consensus picks to get nominated, like randy newman for score or whatever
