Shameless plug since I'm a part of it, but I feel like the Critic's Choice Awards has much better nominees (minus "Joker). Golden Globes have always been a joke of an awards show for the Foreign Press to rub elbows with stars. Critics' Choice Awards: 'The Irishman' Leads With 14 Nominations
Disney not wanting to acknowledge TLK getting an Animated Feature nom is funny, but also they aren’t promoting that JoJo picked up noms while promoting FvF which seems odd
Just a reminder the Hollywood Foreign Press is comprised of roughly 95 voting members a year meanwhile the Academy is around 3-4 thousand
I look forward to a year where Lupita Nyong’o joins Toni Collette in the growing list of astonishingly good performances that are completely ignored during awards season because they’re in horror movies. Yay.
I mean unless Todd Phillips wins best director I don’t see the Oscars going much worse than last year. I think BP is Irishman-UOATIH-Marriage Story
I also don’t see him getting in there, especially after this Golden Globes fiasco. Right now I would guess: Baumbach Gerwig Scorsese Bong Tarantino
I think Gerwig, Scorsese, and QT are locks for the Oscar. Bong is definitely a strong possibility considering they're more recently open to nominating directors of foreign language films for Best Director (and giving it to them, in last year's case). Baumbach is also a strong possibility but I think that slot could go to a few different other people as well.
Knowing with how they’ve gone recently, I would put Mendes as more of a long shot than Marielle Heller at this point, tbh.
I think Mendes has just as much of a shot as Baumbach, honestly even more so just because of how flashy 1917 looks like it is.
Wow, Marriage Story with three individual acting noms but no cast nomination Also I still like to see The Act get continued recognition
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the actors are supporting Bombshell but that's quite a lot more support than I was expecting it to get.
