Like in a year that had a number of great movies that came out, that’s what you settle on? Really? I totally understand that the Oscars are basically the Grammys of movies and I shouldn’t get mad over this but goddamn, I’m just irritated right now.
Eh, I can see the Best Actor nod, Joaquin did a good job with it all things considered. Personally, I would’ve given Willem Dafoe or Robert Pat that nom over him though.
I feel like last year's Best Picture nominees were worse than this year's honestly. The only film I legitimately didn't like was Ford v Ferrari, where there were at least four last year I didn't like and two I really liked.
eh, idk, honestly there isn't anything as bad as Green Book in this group, not even Arthur Clownman, as bad as it is.
Green Book and Joker are in a race to the bottom. Both were bad. But it's not even about the ELEVEN nominations for Joker, it's more of a culmination of everything. The stuff that did get nominations (Joker, Bombshell, Ford v Ferrari) the stuff that didn't (Uncut Gems, The Lighthouse)
was there no push for Gems or The Lighthouse? there's a 10th spot they could have used and those were both left out??
Yeah, I'm saying both were bad, but Arthur Clownman was way better than Green Book. It's like, I'd rather be shot in my arm than shot in my kneecap.
Cool things: The Lighthouse getting a Cinematography nod Parasite getting an Editing nod Klaus over Frozen 2 for Animated Feature nod Kitbull and Hair Love getting Animated Short nods Bad things: Jennifer Lopez's snub Adam Sandler's snub, though that felt more like it was coming than Lopez's The Farewell getting completely ignored
I missed The Lighthouse cinematography nomination. 1917 will surely beat it out, but at least the movie got some recognition.
Green Book was based on lies told by a racist liar to his racist, Trump-supporting son, and focused what should have been the story of a gay black pianist instead on a relationship with said racist liar that didn't actually exist lol
Joker is in another league of bad films. I don't know the last BP nom that I disliked nearly as much as it. Green Book was problematic as fuck and should have been nowhere near the awards, but it still resembled the dumb ass films old white people love
I imagine the old fucks taking part in the nominations watching Joker and going "well, I don't get it but this is what the kids must be into"
I want to rewatch Joker because I feel like my opinion might change, and I liked it on a first watch, but God, Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, and Vice are all so much worse than it.
