First update of the year. Pretty solid month to say the least. Not a TON of stuff that I'm returning to a bunch or feel the need to spend a lot of extra time with. Hopefully February will be interesting. I've mostly been anticipating Tame Impala and Loathe, but not much more. Hopefully some records will surprise me.
I've already listened to 50(!) albums released in 2020! My 10 favorites, in alphabetical order –
070 Shake – Modus Vivendi
Caspian – On Circles
Field Music – Making a New World
Folian – Blue Mirror
Frances Quinlan – Likewise
Jeff Parker – Suite For Max Brown
Nada Surf – Never Not Together
Poppy – I Disagree
Tall Tall Trees – A Wave of Golden Things
Tricot – Black
Great list! Here are my favorite albums so far (in no particular order)
Field Music: Making a New World
Lotus Thief: Oresteia
Kassad: London Orbital
Gloe: Dead Wait
The Osedax: Meridian
Torgeir Waldemar: Love
Nathan Gray: Working Title
Caspian: On Circles
Fliege: The Invisible Seam

Odious Mortem: Synesthesia
Glories: Distant After
i never realized how much time i had to listen to stuff at work until i started keeping track. 127 2020 releases already listened to this year. that's crazy. if i don't burn out i assume 1,000 albums is well within range.
160 albums listened to from 2020 so far. Let’s see how that holds up!
I'm probably not even at 30 or 40 yet because I'm mostly just listening to Poppy over and over
Honestly, how are there even 160 albums released from this year already? That seems crazy
Looking forward to seeing her this summer!
The crazy part is that I’m not even getting to half of what’s being released each week.
Same! Her current tour didn't come to my town, but my brother and I are planning on catching her on the Deftones tour in August.
what percent of the albums you listen to are you actually liking?
I really only listen to albums I’m interested in to begin with unless there is a ton of “noise” or someone recommends it to me so I would say well over 75%.
yeah i think im at, uhhh, like 7 or 8 2020 releases lol.
are you just scouring bandcamp or something?
I'm at 21 albums from 2020 right now and felt like it was a lot for me. How the hell do you find the time to listen to 160 new albums while also having the time to come back to them?
yeah, there’s no way i’d be able to absorb 4 new albums a day
I can’t speak for anyone else but there have only been about 25-30 albums so far (out of 120+) that I’d feel worthwhile to go back and revisit and I have (over the weekends and such). Everything else is just one listen and move on unless a certain song or album struck a cord with me, which is rare. And idk if I ever absorb music or dive in as much as others. For me it’s mostly “is this great, good, ok or bad” and that’s it. I don’t look into it any deeper because I know fuckall about music lol
the fun part about listening to so much new stuff is that 8/10 of my current top 10 list for the year are artists I never even heard of before the year started, so that’s cool.
89. Tame Impala - The Slow Rush (2020)

Am I the only one still waiting on the new sainthood reps album? Genuinely thought it was coming out 2019 when they released the first single. Now, it’s like the album is non existent. Haven’t heard anymore about it.
Did they ever say anything about a full length? I just assumed they were using the singles as teaser tracks, with the matching artwork and color theme for each but then they just went silent early December and nothing since which I thought was weird. Maybe an issues with having a label to release on?
Yeah. Possibly. Not sure to be honest. I swear someone on chorus mentioned an album at some point. Perhaps I’m wrong but I certainly felt like an album was coming. Maybe this year. Haha.
