expected goals is a very involved formula

a lot of people hate it but I enjoy all types of statistics...they just can't ever be relied upon to be the be-all end-all and then they have merit

 

Agreed 100%, problem is none of these stats people present them as be-all-end-all explanations, but skeptics always twist it in bad faith (i.e. Pierre, Steve Simmons, etc.)

agreed but at the same time the story heading into the SCF was “great penalty kill” meets “great power play” so i wasn’t that surprised by it.

And in the 4 minute PP that’s when Kucherov smacked the post from a foot away right? Crazy how many posts they hit last night. I know there’s always “well this could have happened” options but take the posts and turn those into goals and this would have been a 6-2 game (of the rest or the game played out the same way which is unlikely but you get my point I’m sure!)

The incident with Kivi apparently isn’t as fit and dry as originally thought. The police report is delayed by 2-3 days and the article on The Athletic sounds like there may be charges brought against someone. All around a shitty situation that sounds like an accident but I feel like accidents still result in charges usually. Ugh.

 

I will happily accept a Lightning win tonight as an early birthday present, please and thank you.
