    Wait is that clip from this week? are they playing football now because some teams/conferences delayed the season?

    ironically enough our local high schools are playing football now too, so I guess they pushed it back due to covid but it was weird as fuck driving past a football field on a Friday night in April and seeing football

    yeah, that’s from this week. FCS delayed their season to the Spring, though some conferences and teams opted out entirely. Some FCS teams still played a few games in the fall, leading to a situation where the FCS playoffs (starting next weekend) have a 9-2 Jacksonville State and a 3-0 Monmouth both in it.

    I was having some fun in the wake of Europe soccer making a new super league and thinking what it would look like in college football. Thinking who would get invited, who would get snubbed. Its hard! Because how do you decipher between legendary programs and hot current programs. How much would geography and market share play? At first you'd think market would drive the whole thing but I'm not sure.

    Like what do you with UCLA OR Nebraska? In terms of market, penn state is the only school in the entire North East/mid Atlantic id imagine that got an invite.

    For fun, if they do 20 teams, and they split it into 2 divisions where you play all the teams in division plus 4 non division games. What do you think of...
    Div 1;
    Penn state, Ohio state, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, georgia

    Div 2;
    Washington, Oregon, Stanford. USC, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, tennessee

    Just missed cut; Nebraska, Texas a&m, miami, Iowa, Oklahoma state, ucla

    The rivalry is back on

    Div 1;
    Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia

    Div 2;
    Washington, Oregon, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Iowa, Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M

    I added Tennessee, Iowa, and TAMU and dropped Stanford and Michigan St

    edit: I originally put Miami but swapped them for UT

    Its tough. You'd have to balance location, money, quality of program. I would think with florida and florida state already in, Miami would get the boot. Tennessee is a good choice.

    And I guess they would figure Michigan state isn't necessary so I can see Iowa

    i also like the idea of having 1 league with the football powerhouses and 1 with the basketball powerhouses. So you can still make UCLA and Michigan St people happy and capture those high revenue programs by throwing them with Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Kansas, etc and you could easily make that second league without touching these teams. Ohio St/Michigan are the only ones that would maybe qualify but I’m sure their fan bases would pick a football league if given the choice in a heartbeat. And I’m sure no one would really bat an eye if those teams played each other for the entire regular season and then all got automatic bids to the tournament every year because, this year aside, that’s basically a thing anyways

    I mean, a super league already exists. It’s called the SEC. duh. It’s also basically a 14-team playoff already since they’ve got 11 of the past 15 championships. (This is what this thread needs, right? Another SEC dominance discussion?)

    on another note, I’m pulling the trigger on becoming a Florida (mini-)season ticket holder this weekend, so that’s cool.

    Three teams from the Dakotas in the eight teams left. Looks like some good matchups next weekend.

    doubting them seems a lot like a famous last words type thing but i’m interested in seeing how bama does next year. that offense is extremely young.

    I'm fully ready for the Miami vs. Bama game to get hyped up only for Bama to win by 28+

    12. Cap it at 12. Anymore than that and I'll be sad. 5 conf Champs, 1 non major conf champ, 6 wild cards. 4 best teams get byes. 1st round games are all at better teams home stadium.

    2nd round are the traditional rose, sugar etc locations.

    Final four/finals are in same city back to back weekends.

    If you go beyond 16 then the integrity of regular season goes away and give no incentive to win every game. In the end, you have to keep Alabama vs lsu important. College football isn't about the end, jts the journey which makes it unique. Unlike other sports

    I'm down, but I'd be surprised if they went from 4 --> 12 immediately. It seems like a big jump.
    I think 8 is the most likely from here... probably the 5 conference champs + highest ranked G5 team + 2 at large teams.

    College football is arguably the MOST about the end. You lose one game and nothing matters anymore. It's dumb and should be fixed.

    16 teams!

    fuck it. 32.

    4 of the 7 champions during the CFP era had one loss. BCS champs LSU back in 2007 had 2 losses.

    Or if you're in a G5 team you can go undefeated and still don't have a shot.

    The point about G5 is kind of what I mean. Prestige teams can lose one. But like, Oregon State or Missouri? One loss and its pretty much over. Really only a handful of teams can afford to lose even one game.
