Trevor Lawrence is the best player in college football, which is who the award is supposed to go to, but DeVonta Smith had the best season.

It should go to Smith. If Lawrence hadn't missed time with COVID, I think it'd be his award to lose right now, but that clearly is not the case. Smith earned it. Without him out there for Alabama, Mac Jones' season would be a lot different.
