I didn't listen to Draymond's press conference about this, but heard about him mentioning Drummond, and thought it was odd that was the example he used, because it sounds like the decision was mutual.

 

I don't know the full extent of what Draymond said, but I've seen the cliff notes version. I don't disagree with him when he brings up guys being traded with little communication. That can obviously suck for a lot of different reasons.

My counter to that is the trend of star players signing a contract and then demanding a trade.

Every example under these two things is different so it's hard to compare, but I don't think we will ever be in a world where neither thing happens. I think the two things balance each other out as far as what is fair and what isn't. Sometimes it works out for all parties. Sometimes it doesn't.

But it isn't a one-sided thing. The players in the NBA have gained a lot of power to balance things out imo.

 

Only the top players who will be able to leverage in whichever way they please, unfortunately. Sometimes a team will trade or release a player out of good faith but that’s much more rare. I don’t understand why gms refuse to tell players they’ll be traded, though. Would draymond sit out the season and lose the rest of his salary if he was traded to the pistons? I really don’t think so.

 

Yeah, it’s definitely shitty to just straight up not tell them at all. I was more speaking to just trading them in general when the player wants to stay. At least keep them in the loop.

I suppose their reasoning is not wanting details to leak which could allow another team to swoop in.

 

Yeah, it’s probably that and I guess the risk of anything happening prior to a trade. I’m not sure what would happen but that’s why you have to have respect between the front office, agent and player to begin with. I doubt a player would just dip if he knew he was gonna he traded or something, that would probably be a tough one to recover from.
