Like this is my favorite draft class I’ve “scouted” (as a hobby) so far. I liked 2014 and 2016, this draft has elements of both.
Metcalf is a high risk high reward prospect imo A lot of people aren’t accounting for the fact he very well could be another Kevin White. I mean. He could also be a bully downfield with breakaway speed after releasing from press. Hence why I say I see his ceiling being a poor man’s Terrell Owens. It just depends. I feel like that’s the kind of player that would be a bust if a dumb team like the Jags drafted him & didn’t know how to utilize him.
For me it’s hard to justify the fact that his overall tape & production do not match his “wow” highlights and athleticism. Even aside from the injury, you really expect a receiver with this much hype and that crazy of an athlete to dominate in college. Dudes season numbers were like, 800 yards 5 TD... meanwhile you have AJ Brown going 1300 / 9 in the same offense. The audio doesn’t match the video for me and it makes me skeptical
I feel like Gary and Sweat are the two that I don't think are going to pan out well in the NFL. Especially Gary
I’m just saying, the last time one school had two top receivers, both OBJ AND Landry dominated in college haha. They helped LSU become an amazing passing offense that year and BOTH produced, didn’t detract from each other. If AJ Brown got the lion’s share of the targets that hints he was a lot more consistent about getting separation.
Also shows they had a terrible QB incapable of utilizing Metcalfs skillset. Think about what you tell me when I say ARob had a mediocre year.
Ouch! Gary might be the guy team’s love his versatility but he’s not “great” at DT OR DE, I could see that But I love Montez Sweat and think he looks like a faster Danielle Hunter
Eh, I have also said ARob still struggles to separate and thus can be silenced by double coverage, which is why he isn’t a true alpha WR1
Look how open he gets and how the qb underthrows the ball by like 10 yards and he still comes back and gets it
Because we don't have that much high-end team success, it's nice to see Iowa churning out quality draft prospects year after year. Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson both look like near locks for the first round, especially after the combine measurements they had. I think Hock will be a better pro based on what they both displayed in college.
Gary just did basically nothing at Michigan. He has all the tools, and should be good, but he just hasn't impressed me at all on field. His combine was predictably great, but it just hasn't translated to his game very well. Sweat can be good for sure, a lot of his sacks/rushes came to him pretty easy though and I'd like to see more actual pass rush moves from him. Lions are starting to get linked to him which makes me nervous
Separating with a head nod on a vertical route is really not that special haha. Doesn’t require agility to make that move. The guy in the clip is exaggerating. He tracked the ball well absolutely but does this mean he can be effective on digs and corner posts over the middle? Like, perhaps Ole Miss offense was too limited but you really only saw him do vertical shit well. Even still though, some receivers have had success that way (Vincent Jackson was a top 10 WR for years), so I’m not discounting him. Just more so debating his consistency as a versatile X-receiver threat and not just a really good sideline Y receiver. Because if he’s the latter then you can get those in round 2-3 (JJAW, Harmon, Butler) in this draft as well.
Which also supports the fact he was used primarily as a vertical threat haha. All his plays were big money plays. And you have half of one season of “dominance” to go off
You can guarantee any team that brings him in for a workout will test that. *fast forwards to 2019 draft* Jags select dk metcalf Thread: woah Randall: wow, I love it! we got the next Julio Jones! Now trade up for Daniel jones so we can have Bruegel to jimmy smits allover again Carpetelf: smh
