This. Now that the Jags were mentioned with Tannehill, I want to see an existing veteran QB signed to a front loaded 2 or 3 year deal (depending on age) and be done with it
Not really. It was the worst QB class since 2013 WITH Justin Herbert. Now it may be the weakest of the 2000s.
Based on the top prospects I’ve watched film on, I am highly inclined to agree. Idk though Geno Smith was at least AS bad of a #1 QB prospect.
Haskins is very good for Urban Meyer’s offense but he barely has to anticipate throws. His ball placement is very solid when he has a clean pocket, but that’s more of a prerequisite than it sets him apart. Mobility is decent but pocket movement under pressure can be really ugly and inefficient. Right now I feel like he could be good on an offense like the Steelers, but he would face a sharp learning curve in a less than ideal situation. You barely see any tight windows or timing-specific throws from him in his tape, and Ohio St offensive line has kept pressure off him a lot better than he will get at the NFL level. He also rarely has to cycle through reads and that’s not something you just pick up quickly.
It feels like Haskins process will be so similar to Mahomes in the 2017 Draft. (He’ll be taken a little bit higher.) I really think he could be a great QB, but it’ll really depend on where he lands. It’s tough to say right now due to upcoming coaching changes, but I feel like the Giants would be a great fit.
I'd say the Jags could be one of the better places for Haskins but I have no idea who his coaches are gonna be lol. But a power run type offense that doesn't put the pressure on Haskins would be ideal for him.
He's physically talented, but he's rarely pressured and when he is, he struggles. Meyer is not a good dude off the field, but he's a brilliant offensive mind. Maybe the best in the business. He's schemed the offense around players like Haskins for years. The ball comes out quick on the first read or he manipulates fronts with a counter look that freezes the linebackers and the safeties. It's a nearly perfect offense for a mobile quarterback. He can certainly develop into a passer than make multiple reads in and out of the pocket, but he is very far off from that kind of player right now. I see a lot of praise about his accuracy. Sure, it's there but how many times is he repping those single read throws in practice? When he's forced off-script, he slips. I wish he could stay at Ohio State for another year, but it would be moronic to return now that Justin Herbert is.
No, he's much more polished than Cardale Jones. He's more like JT Barrett with a bigger arm. Cardale's success in that scheme says a lot though. Meyer can work magic. I remember the Penn State this year. Haskins struggled with the pass rush. Meyer screened Penn State over and over again in the second half because they just blitzed the hell out of Haskins and he wasn't handling it well.
I'd wait for a 16 game season from Fournette before saying he can help give a good situation to a young QB
I agree with literally all of this haha Tebow’s record breaking seasons were a great example of Urban Meyer making a very poor NFL prospect into a dominant college QB
