I’d still be pissed about losing puig to even be happy about Harper

I liked Kapler when he played for the Rangers. One of my favorites growing up

 

Harper's gonna sign with Tampa and Machado's gonna sign with Seattle, lock it up. About the only two teams that haven't been "connected" to either of them so it's gotta be that

Tony Gwynn was a blast, RIP. Mentioned the Gwynn era to some baseball fans in their early 20s last year and they were shocked to discover the Padres were really good for most of a 10+ yr period and had gone to the World Series as recently as the late 90s. Would love to see them fight with the Dodgers for that division

jk i dont actually believe that but history makes the game so much richer

 

And it helps you appreciate how all teams' stock rises and falls over the years (even the Yanks)

For example, if you only knew the last 20 yrs of baseball you'd be forgiven for being shocked that in the early-to-mid-70s there was a five-year period in which only the Reds and As won the World Series

 

And the Pirates won it the year before that five-year period! ('71)

 

Every time I remember there was a Brewers v Cardinals World Series, my head explodes a little bit

One of my fav pastimes is to read bios of random players from the SABR Biography Project. I’m often down the rabbit hole of random 1960s relievers or whatever and often enough there’s a sabr bio that details their whole life and career. An amazing resource
