As we've seen for the Cubs, that's nothing. They wanted way more anyway, I feel like they got less than they wanted.

Quintana is a great pitcher. It's kind of alarming though, his walk rate is significantly above his career average this year. I don't know what is going on with him, but he's clearly having a down year. He averages almost a full IP/G less than he pitched last year (6.5 vs. 5.78), which can partially be attributed to the walk rate being so high this year. Still, over the course of his career he has always been an under the radar ace level pitcher. Positive for him is that he doesn't have to move very far!

I still think the Cubs will end up making the playoffs, and I would imagine this will only help them get there.

The Cubs spooked themselves into this trade. It's not like the Cubs/Brewers are neck/neck with great records. The Cubs aren't even at .500 right now. The Cubs need to look internally, before worrying about the team with the 5th best record in the NL.

  11. I'd rather give up top prospects for Sonny Gray anyways

I wasn't really worried about Cashman shipping off Torres or Frazier and others for Quintana but it's nice to make it officially not an option lol

  13. I'd even be okay with the Brewers giving up Brinson and some more for Archer or Stroman

I don't think this trade was spooked by the Brewers. It was spooked by Cubs starting pitchers being not good this year. The Cubs under Epstein/Hoyer drafted hitters early (there's no such thing as a pitching prospect, as they say), so there hasn't been a ton of pitching talent in the minors. Quintina is cheap, under team control through 2020, and sets the table for more aggressive pitching acquisitions in the off season.

I'm more than fine with this move. I'd rather have on field talent rather than hoarding prospects who are years away from playing in the bigs.

Exactly. No one is spooked by the Brewers. They're exceeding their own and everyone's expectations from the beginning of the season, but they've benefited from poor play from the Cubs(and everyone in the division), who should and will win the division. The NL Central is very weak this year, and if they were in any of the other divisions, they'd be fighting for and not currently in a WC spot.

Good trade for the cubs...a controllable young pitcher for 3 years. Totally worth it. They're in "let's win as networks series while we have rizzo and Bryant while we can"

  19. In a year where everyone expected the Cubs to run away with the division they ended up trading away their best prospect - that's a win for me

  20. Let's not just assume the Brewers are in first because the NL central is bad - the Brewers are 1st in HR, 5th in SB and 7th in ERA in the NL - they are a good team

The Cardinals are 3rd in the NL in ERA, and they're not a good team. I'm just trying to get ahead of you getting your hopes up!

Garrett Cooper .366 avg, 17 hr, 82 rbi, 1.080 ops in 75 games in AAA. Sounds like a good shot for the Yanks at least with our black hole at 1st.

Edit: .442 avg, 1.332 ops in basically the minors Coors Field lol. Still worth a shot. As long as I don't see Chris Carter again haha

  25. Numbers are a bit inflated cuz he plays at the hitter friendly Colorado Springs but he should still give nice numbers
