We live in a world of hot takes. Everyone is an expert with the ability to post their opinion in seconds. They need to calm down.

Roberts is obviously a good coach. Sometimes players just execute or don’t. If he left Hill in then people would question that.

 

Manager hate is always "post hoc ergo procter hoc"

managing has the least effect on baseball imo

 

We’ve seen managing effect baseball pretty negatively. Bobby Valentine *shudders*

 

Pretty sure his contract is up anyway. My beef is going with the six out save again and they have pitched Madson.

 

There's some truth to this to be sure.

I'm in the camp that believes there are no good managers, only bad managers and managers. Probably 90% of MLB managers are in the second category where they have little-to-no effect on the outcome of games over a large enough sample size, but then there's that 10% who are "bad managers" and manage (hehe) to mess things up. Another way of saying this I guess would be that managers can't win games for a team but they sure as hell can lose them. I don't think they "lose" a game for a team as often as most fans think. But it can happen. Sources cited: I personally watched Mike Matheny lose at least 5-10 games between April and July of this season alone.

 

To the topic at hand, I don't think Roberts managed the game that poorly tonight. The only super questionable thing he did in my opinion was bringing in Wood when the guy's gotten his shit rocked pretty consistently of late and wasn't a clear improvement over the other options available at the time.

But Wood was responsible for one run and the Dodgers lost by three

 

He also brought in Madson who has also gotten his shit rocked constantly and he gave up three

 

I hate everything

 

If he becomes a Yankee he's gonna make A-Rod vs. Boston look civil

 

Pearce was clutch last night, but that benintendi 2 out infield single was a huge moment. If he doesn’t beat that out then that those 4 runs never come in.
