Getting swept by Toronto after getting back to .500 and scoring 6 runs over the 4 game series is such a Mariners thing to do

Looks like we are getting the Twins team this year that people were expecting last year. I like that they are playing good and challenging the Tribe right now, as are the other divisional teams. I'm so not worried about the Indians or Edwin for that matter. The first part of the season is just survive and hang around. At 1 game back and room to improve I like their start.

The Indians have already battled some big-time injuries (Kluber, Kipnis, Brantley) and haven't found their offense consistently and are still only one game out of first place behind a team that will likely slow down sooner or later. Indians didn't heat up last year until mid-June (the start of the 14-game win streak). That said, I did expect them to be better than 2 games over .500 nearly a quarter-way through the season.

I think the record is more indicative of the overall smaller gap in talent across the league. The Cubs probably have the best roster on paper and have a slightly worse record than the Tribe. I definitely think there will be more separation once the cream rises, but when so many teams are going with the young core, sustained growth model, the gap between the best and the worst is smaller than in past years imo.

I think the MLB always has a lot of 'pretenders' in the early part of every season. The season is so long, that it just takes a few months to find the real contenders and the teams who get off to fast starts eventually start to slow down. Happens every year. Hell, I remember the Indians started 30-13 in 2011 and finished the season under .500.

Agreed @ncarrab. That's why I like where we are sitting. We've had good pitching for the most part and some good hitting, but both areas can be improved. It's not like we are overextending by any means. Navigating shitty midwest spring weather after playing in Arizona is an overall positive for me. As the season plays out, I expect things to pick up a bit.

I've been thrilled with the Astros season and can't wait to see which pitcher is added at the deadline

  18. Can I interest you in one of our 83 pitchers on the DL?

    Sincerely,

    A Mariners fan.

Indians injury list is growing: Carrasco and Almonte now. Team just can't stay healthy.

I'm hopeful Carrasco's injury is not serious. It sucks for Abe, but it's not like we can't and haven't played without him. It does suck that that the injuries don't seem to be going our way, but I am still fine. Having an NBA or NHL team to follow is the best distraction this time of year. These games are meaningful, but they aren't the most important either. As long as we don't completely set ourselves back and hang around I am not too concerned with these early months.
