That greatest free agent class of all time coming up in 2018 continues to lose it's luster

Injuries
- cespesdes (best offensive player) out 2 months
- syndergaard (best pitcher) out 3 months
- matz and lugo out 2 months (bye bye entire pitching depth)
- duda and darnaud (our 1b and c) pretty much out all year....wilmer our backup was hurt too
- asdrubal Cabrera (our ss) is now injured
- familia was suspended
- harvey is suspended
(Our lf, 1b, c, ss...and our #1, #4, and #6 sp..all hurt. And our #3sp and closer suspended)

And yet only 1 game under .500. God damn

 

I've been watching it all day and this is just truly incredible

I really don't want Darvish to be traded, wish he'd sign an extension, but it seems more likely that he's gone before the deadline.

 

I'm in the same boat I think but we're so bad that it'd be stupid almost to not get a haul for him.

We can't always trade away and hope to resign but the odds of that actually happening are very very slim.

Noob question. How do baseball commentators know what type of pitch is thrown? I listen to the Mariners on the radio and they always know what type of pitch is immediately after it is thrown. Have they just been around a long time or is it super obvious after the pitcher's release?

I hardly ever get to watch the games on TV so all I can do is picture it.

 

Speed of the pitch, the movement of the pitch, and knowing the pitches that a particular pitcher throws.
