Verlander is inarguably great, but if you’re implying that he should’ve gotten his 3rd Cy Young last year over my boy Blake Snell, I’m sorry to say this, but I’m gonna have to ask you to go kick rocks.

 

2012 he should have won it. He pitched 27 more innings than Price and was better than him in almost every stat aside from Price being at 2.56 ERA vs 2.64. Price also won 20 games to JV’s 17.

2016 he lost to Porcello mainly because Porcello had 22 wins to JV’s 16. JV was once again better than Porcello in almost every category. In both seasons JV’s WAR (according to baseball-reference) demolished the first place winner. In both seasons he lost in a narrow defeat.

2018? Snell won that trophy fair and square no question.

 

In 2012, it should've gone to JV or Felix. Both are correct answers to me. Price won off the old school thinking of pitchers. I wouldn't count that season as a "should've" for JV since Felix was there. Felix lead the AL in innings, FIP, and xFIP.

2016, most definitely counts as a "should've."

 

Yeah 2016 he was robbed. Didn't he get left off two ballots too?

Snell was correct last year.

JV has more IP than Felix in 2012. He also allowed less ER, had a better WHIP. I don’t know, FIP is a good argument, though. I’d definitely say it’s a close bid for either of them. JV lost to Price by 4 points and Felix was almost 100 points back, which is disgusting. If Felix played for the Yankees or Red Sox for his entire career rather than the Mariners, dude would be considered a legend. It sucks that he had to fall off these last couple years, he’s still just 33 despite being in the league forever.
