Yeah Cora had Kolarek penciled in at the 9th spot so either he was completely clueless about the rules behind the move or Hernández did not communicate it correctly.

Today's episode of Effectively Wild was interesting. Ben, Meg, and Sam all independently wrote down their top 5 position players and top 5 pitchers of the decade (2010-2019) without consulting leaderboards and then compared how they did vs each other and vs Fangraphs/Baseball-Reference.

Some of it was pretty obvious and had total alignment between the trio, like Trout being the far and away the best position player, same with Kershaw. There were good discussions about where players like Posey, Miguel Cabrera, Beltre, and Greinke fell on these lists.

Before they got to the pitching segment, I felt pretty sure that Kluber would be in the top 5 for pitchers, but he's not by any metric. Great pitcher, of course, but pretty definitively outside of the top 5 but within the top 10.

All in all, really fun discussion. I wish I had paused and came up with my own lists before they talked about it. One discussion from a while ago that I constantly mull over is about how you'd like to disperse a 50 WAR career if you were able to be a major leaguer.

Do you put up 2 war for 25 years--the ultimate career in longevity? How about 10 WAR/year for 5 years, reaching an absurd peak before crashing and burning? Or averaging 3ish WAR/year for 15 years, being a genuine above average major league for a really good career length? Lot of options!

I don't know what I'd do. It'd be fun to have a Trout-esque career even if shortened, but also fun to be Omar Vizquel and play forever.
