They were both pending free agents and they chose Flowers bc he was younger. I never liked the decision. Hate it. Wish Contreras would have punched Flowers in the face the other night.

Why the Flowers hate? Fangraphs has him as a top 10 catcher in WAR, this season.

Because 1.1 less WAR (Suzuki is 0.5/Flower is 1.6) this season would have been drastically better. Funny though b/c Fangraphs has all of Flowers WAR being defensive.

nothing justifiable probably..just one of those irrational things. seems like he's a regular rally killer and his defense is less than impressive. just had a passed ball that gave up a run for example.

 

To be fair though, Flowers is one of those dudes who fails the eye test every time.

That's odd to hear about his defense. Baseball Prospectus has him as a top tier framer. I can see how his bat comes off as undesirable, but I hold the belief that defense and framing is what you want most out of a catcher.
