Something like one of the 10 greatest 3B of all time seems so circumstantial. If he plays 1B then he doesn't get in

Now are we saying he might be one of the five greatest fielding 3b of all time?

 

He's been my favorite Met the past couple of years.

I'm definitely going to miss friendly Phil Anselmo.

 

I'm pretty sure a lot of 1B were 3B they wouldn't get in. Let's face it of all the guys on the fielder they generally are considered the worst fielders on the team so their real worth is at the plate as to most other players who are expected to field their position well.

 

So much of Beltre's value comes in him playing a difficult defensive position so well. You can't just say "if he played first base". If Dan Marino played tight end he wouldn't be a hall of famer either.

beltre is 7th all time in career 3B WAR and will be 5th before his career ends, fantastic hitter with a MVP caliber season with a bunch of extremely good ones and a top notch defender, as well as a great personality, easy HOF

No I know I know haha...i guess I don't consider 3b to be a niche position like ss or catcher.

But if you want to call him a top 5 defensive 3b of all time...then I guess he can be a hof.

 

Does that mean we can knock Jeter HOF chance because he was a fucking horrible SS?

Nah, Jeter made a bunch of All-Star games. That's the mark of true HoF talent.

 

Jeter career . 300 hitter... 200 hits a bunch of times. A bunch of things on his resume that stand out

 

You guys are saying beltre is one of the best defensive 3bs of all time with good enough offensive numbers.

Okay. I can see that.

 

Wish the best for both of em. They did what they were supposed to last year, just weren't able to get it together this year.

Do people remember that the Pirates gave up two good prospects just for the jays to take liriano off their hands? That was great.
