I saw a gif going around last night showing his hat having some pine tar or something on the inside brim. Same with Fiers having something in his glove during the no hitter. People still make fusses out of nothing. :eyeroll:

Still weird to me that they don't count a bunch of RBI from the guys that were in front of him

I think I am having a brain fart, and this is really simple. But do you mean go back and recount RBI for players before it became a stat?

Well like baseball reference has 2214 for Ruth. Which isn't recognized by MLB. How they get that if it wasn't officially kept, I'm not sure. Estimated from box scores? Did they have box scores? Lol idk really.

Yeah. Idk. The record keeping for RBI wasn't defined well, so I guess they didn't track it the same throughout.

MLB has Pujols as the third to reach 2,000, but Fangraphs has him as the 5th.

They do count Cap Anson's stats, who retired way before 1920.

So, I looked at it. Babe has 224 RBI before 1920, so they don't count them. How dumb. Why can't they do stats retroactively, if possible?

I know I don't get it. The records they have should be good enough to count.

  10. So putting a guy at second that’s never played there may be a bad idea M’s.

Well definitely not with his lifetime .242 average and penchant for getting suspended for being a serial abuser.

I'm generally very against throwing at hitters for any reason, but a 105 mph Jordan Hicks heater under the chin might be justifiable in Russell's case when the Cubs are in town at the end of the month. Just something to think about.

I doubt anybody will do anything. Verlander was one of the most outspoken guys against this stuff and was fine with Osuna joining his team

It's astounding how bad the Cubs and sportswriters handled this at every step though

Oh no--I don't think anyone will do anything at all. That post was a pseudo-revenge fantasy haha. Frankly I also doubt that the Cardinals, for example, would have handled the Russell situation much differently if it had involved one of our players. It's really a commentary on how far baseball as a whole--and really sports as whole--has to go in this area, not just a particular team or teams.

My point is this: Coupled with the other unsavory shit about the Cubs' leadership from this calendar year it does paint a bad picture of that franchise sure, but if anyone thinks that their team absolutely would have handled the situation differently then frankly they're fucking delusional.

Well I wouldn't bet against you obviously. The 'threatening sportswriters thing' seems next level but who knows if anyone would do better

The Cardinals have scored 16 runs so far tonight and have done so without hitting a single HR. I wonder when was the last time that that happened, must be pretty rare in this era of juiceball

    you're the best!

So we now have 17 runs, still with no homer, which is the most runs scored by a team without hitting a home run since the Astros scored 18 runs without a HR (against the Cardinals nonetheless) on August 3rd, 2010

Last time a team scored 17 with no HR was the Rockies in 2012. So it is indeed pretty rare.
