Dallas selects Zach Allen, DE, Boston College.

Admittedly I'm not very high on Allen as I think he's a high floor low ceiling guy but apparently this is where his value lies based on the rankings. Dallas is a good fit I think, based on the fact that they could really use someone opposite of DeMarcus Lawrence that isn't a constant threat for suspension. That alone makes him an upgrade

I did forget about that. But I'm keeping the pick as Allen, Quinn hasn't had a great season in 4 years so I wouldn't bet on a sudden rebound

It really does. LIterally way back around pick 42 I offered Matt a trade to get up from 69 to 60 and he said yes.

I mean, it wasn't an immediate need, but Allen is a steal at this point, and we really should start looking for big DE to eventually replace Campbell, so it's not a crisis when he retires or declines.

All those dudes are strong safeties right now imo.

Savage and Thornhill could develop into that pure cover 1 / cover 3 FS and have the range to do it, but right now their instincts are far more about playing downhill than preventing the big play. It’ll take a couple years before they don’t make costly mistakes if they are trusted with the deep middle. (This is why I traded up for Adderley instead.)

I think Thompson has more disicpline and awareness, but just doesn’t have that same range so he’s maybe more of a two deep free safety.

 

None of them are.

Chargers select Darnell Savage, FREE safety, Maryland

 

I think Abram would fit well in the Colts’ system. He wouldn’t ever be the deep safety, and I think his strengths are maximized in a system that allows short completions but emphasizes being around the ball and making tackles

I think Thornhill would be good there too

Patriots select Deionte Thompson, FREE safety, Alabama.

Can't believe he's still available. Patriots are a solid team for him to go to. At the very worst, they could have him in the second unit to continue learning with Jason McCourty still at FS. Otherwise, if Thompson's looking good, it gives them the opportunity to run varying coverages with McCourty playing FS or CB.
