Seems like they were gonna get it done and then the isles kind of shifted their focus to varmalov and when they realized they could get him they were just like

Essentially forced to overpay Lee after missing on Breadman, the Lehner misfire, losing another top 9 center, not doing really anything else of note

I think it was really overblown TBH, it's good he had a backup offer like that though

 

One of the better July 1's in recent years.

$22 million on that Aho signing bonus in the first year definitely makes that offer sheet interesting, but I don't see Carolina letting him go.

 

It's an easy match. If they can't pay him $12 mil. now and $9 mil. next year they shouldn't be a franchise.
