This is weird, apparently because he was traded before his nmc kicked in he loses it. The lockout needs to happen ASAP. It's ironic that football and hockey have the worst unions, considering they're the most physical compared to other sports. I’d assume that was the only offer that had them retaining zero salary. Per LeBrun, the Leafs wanted $3m retained.

 

Prob no way they would have kept him in the Central either, even if teams had better offers.

Realistically, Subban was the third best defenseman on the team (Josi/Ekholm) and keeping him wasn’t going to improve their chances. Had to clear cap room to improve a weak offense.

Johansen-Duchene-Turris-Bonino down the middle would be salivating.
